Recently saw the news that Blade lost its second director and is on at least it’s seventh writer.
Now the lawyer of Mahershala Ali, Shelby Weiser, one of the top lawyers in Hollywood, offers her two cents and can’t believe the movie hasn’t happened yet, as Marvel announced it way back in 2019.
What did Shelby Weiser say?
Speaking with THR, the article confirms Mahershala Ali has signed on for the Jurassic World reboot and says Ali is also “toplining Marvel’s Blade … someday.”
The article then includes a quote from Weiser:
“That deal was in 2019, and they still haven’t shot it, which is pretty much the craziest thing in my professional experience.”
What is going on with Blade?
Blade seems to be in development hell as, again, just two days ago saw the news that director Yann Demange has exited the movie, the second director to do so following Bassam Tariq. A new, third director is yet to be named.
It’s also confirmed another new writer is onboard with Eric Pearson who is known for Black Widow, Thor: Ragnarok, Agent Carter, Godzilla vs. Kong, and he wrote Marvel’s Thunderbolts and co-wrote Fantastic Four.
Pearson replaces Michael Green who is known for Logan.
Previous details said about the flick include that two-time Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali was going to take a backseat to female characters in his own movie which he pitched to Kevin Feige back in 2019.
Variety previously said, “The story at one point morphed into a narrative led by women and filled with life lessons. Blade was relegated to the fourth lead, a bizarre idea considering that the studio had two-time Oscar winner Ali on board.”
Blade is supposed to get released on November 7, 2025 release date, but that seems unlikely given Mahershala Ali is now doing the Jurassic World reboot which films soon.
