Thanks to an interview with Barry Keoghan, it is apparently confirmed that his Joker will be a part of The Batman 2.
Keoghan’s version of the Joker was teased at the end of the movie and a full deleted scene was released online.
Following the release of The Batman, director Matt Reeves said he cut the scene because he felt another part in the movie explained the same thing.
So the reason why he decided to release the deleted scene is because he said it tested better with test screenings.
“You’re also playing the Joker”
In an interview with Vanity Fair, the site questions the actor, “Looking ahead, you’ve got the miniseries Masters of the Air, and you’re also playing the Joker in DC’s The Batman 2. What do you want your career to look like going forward?”
While Barry Keoghan doesn’t touch upon playing the Joker or The Batman 2, he also doesn’t shoot down that he is appearing in the film, so while not officially announced by the studio, it’s basically confirmation of Joker appearing in the sequel.
What is the status of The Batman Part II?
New head of the DCU, James Gunn, recently shot down rumors surrounding the flick in regards to characters and villains rumored to appear including Clayface, Hush, Dick Grayson, Professor Pyg, and Scarecrow.
“Nope. Totally made up,” said Gunn on Threads in December.
Gunn also said about the sequel, “I heard a pitch. No script yet.”
Reeves is also a part of Gunn’s DCU developing an Arkham series, which is said to be separate from his Robert Pattinson Batman universe that also includes the Colin Farrell Penguin series.
The Batman Part II has an October 3, 2025 release date with Robert Pattinson returning as the Dark Knight. No plot details are known. It has been said the script is still being worked on as well.
