Aquaman 2 Box Office Obliterates The Marvels

Sorry MCU fanboys, the Aquaman 2 box office has now passed The Marvels by a large margin.

DC’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is now up to $258.27 million on a budget of $205 million, while The Marvels stalled out at only $205 million on a budget of $275 million.

Both flicks actually have the same domestic box office, around $84 million, but it’s the international audience that makes up the big difference.

Aquaman 2 has a foreign box office of $173.6 million while The Marvels bombed with $121 million.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom also got a boost from its China release with $33.7 million, while The Marvels only made half that, $15.2 million.

I can recall seeing more than one Marvel fan online commenting on how The Marvels opening box office beat Aquaman 2, well, how’d that work out?

Aquaman 2 also only saw a 29.6% drop from week one to week two. The Marvels? It’s the worst-performing superhero movie of all time dropping a massive 78.1%.

A win is a win

Hey, I’m not saying it’s a win for DC by any means, but Aquaman 2 is the last movie of the DCEU and is basically meaningless. The Marvels is just an awful film that proves no one is interested in those characters.

Jason Momoa will continue on as Lobo in James Gunn’s DCU. Captain Marvel and Ms. Marvel? If they show up again it’s guaranteed to be another ratings disaster.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is also now obliterating The Marvels on the dailies (see below), so it will be interesting to see exactly where Aquaman 2 ends its box office run. The Marvels? Disney called it quits less than a month after it opened.
