Sony is developing an animated Venom movie, according to a new report from The Hollywood Reporter.
It’s an interesting pivot after the live-action trilogy, and it keeps the character alive in a format that can go bigger and weirder without the same budget limits.
Animated Venom movie now in development at Sony
The report says the project is in early development. There’s no release date, no casting details, and no story details yet, but Sony is moving forward with it as a standalone animated feature.
In other words: this isn’t a confirmed “next up” theatrical slot. It’s a real project that’s being built out right now.
Final Destination: Bloodlines directors set to helm
Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein are attached to direct. They’re the duo behind Final Destination: Bloodlines, and Sony is handing them Venom for a new animated take.
That pairing stands out because Venom works best when it leans hard into horror-comedy, creature feature energy, and physical chaos. Animation can push that further without getting constrained by live-action logistics.
Tom Hardy producing alongside Kelly Marcel and the Venom team
Tom Hardy is involved as a producer, along with Kelly Marcel. The returning producer group from the live-action films is also part of it, including Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Matt Tolmach.
Hardy producing keeps a direct creative link to the version of Venom audiences already know, even if he never voices Eddie Brock. The report doesn’t say anything about voice casting yet.
What it could mean for Venom going forward
Venom has already proven he can carry a franchise, and animation gives Sony a clean way to refresh the character while avoiding the same expectations that come with another live-action sequel.
Until Sony announces a writer, a cast, or a date, the big takeaway is simple: Venom isn’t done. He’s just switching formats.
