It’s claimed that Andrew Garfield is wanted by Sony for Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse, the third film in the animated franchise.
Garfield is, of course, known for playing Spidey in the two live-action Amazing Spider-Man films and returned in the MCU’s live-action Far From Home movie along with Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland.
The rumor about Beyond The Spider-Verse follows Andrew Garfield appearing recently at a screening of Across the Spider-Verse which he said is “a masterpiece of pure cinema.”
Following an image of the actor going viral on Twitter with over half a million views, the MyTimeToShineHello Twitter account chimed in.
“Of course he is since they want him for Beyond the Spider-Verse,” tweeted the account in reply to a Spider-Man fan account tweeting, “Andrew Garfield attended and spoke at a screening for Across the spider-verse yesterday.”

Is Andrew Garfield returning as Spider-Man?
This isn’t the first time Andrew Garfield has been rumored for a return to the Spidey role.
Following the huge success of No Way Home, rumors were rampant that Andrew Garfield would be returning as Spider-Man, but while Garfield said he was interested in a return, he did say last year that he is going to take a break from acting.
“I’m going to rest for a little bit,” Garfield told Variety back in April of 2022. “I need to recalibrate and reconsider what I want to do next and who I want to be and just be a bit of a person for a while. Because as you know, that is a washing machine, that awards season… I need to just be a bit ordinary for a while.”
However, that break didn’t last long as Garfield has been cast in Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming Frankenstein movie, and in the No Way Home Art of the Movie book, he teased his version of Spidey is somewhere out there.
“The story never ends, whether we film it or not,” he said in the book. “There’s a story happening in a universe somewhere. That’s endless potential with this character and all the different interactions. So, yeah, he’s definitely out there doing something.”Â
According to another rumor, Andrew Garfield also could appear in Avengers: Secret Wars, which is also rumored to feature Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland, with Sam Raimi said to be the favorite to direct.
When does Beyond The Spider-Verse get released?
Beyond The Spider-Verse doesn’t have a release date as of yet. The film was originally supposed to be released on March 29, 2024 but has since been pushed back.
It’s known the cast is supposed to start voicing their roles sometime after the strike has ended, but again, no dates are known.
“Those conversations are thankfully above our paygrade, but I can tell you we’re already hard at work on it, and we’ll take the time it takes to make it great,” writers/producer Phil Lord said in October when asked about a potential Beyond The Spider-Verse release date.
