James Gunn Responds To DC Reboot News and Rumors

James Gunn responds to yesterday’s big DC news and rumors about a potential reboot and the cancellation of Wonder Woman 3 and the Justice League actors and characters.

THR offered up Wonder Woman 3 is dead and that Patty Jenkins’ script has been rejected, with the article also hinting that the new co-heads of the DCU, James Gunn and Peter Safran, are wanting to reboot the DCU and recast, which would mean Henry Cavill is done as Superman and Man of Steel 2 isn’t happening, Ben Affleck is done as Batman, Jason Momoa will stop playing Aquaman and will play Lobo, and Gal Gadot is also done as Wonder Woman.

The article also said Black Adam sequels are in doubt, which actually saw Dwayne Johnson respond on social media by tweeting an article stating Black Adam will be profitable and that “it’s all noise.”

It’s also been said the Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson The Batman projects are safe from Gunn’s grasp.

Update: Henry Cavill announces he is done with the Superman role as James Gunn has announced he is developing a new movie with a new actor in the role.

DC Comics Kingdom Come

James Gunn responds to DC News:

Following the release of the article, James Gunn was rather quiet on Twitter but responded a few hours ago where worth a mention is that Gunn again teases Kindom Come, which just might that, a tease, and simply might mean that a new “kingdom” is coming and not that Gunn is adapting the story.

“So. As for the story yesterday in the Hollywood Reporter, some of it is true, some of it is half-true, some of it is not true, & some of it we haven’t decided yet whether it’s true or not,” Gunn said.

He continued, “Although this first month at DC has been fruitful, building the next ten years of story takes time & we’re still just beginning.”

Gunn added, “Peter & I chose to helm DC Studios knowing we were coming into a fractious environment, both in the stories being told & in the audience itself & there would be an unavoidable transitional period as we moved into telling a cohesive story across film, TV, animation, and gaming.”

Gunn tweeted, “But, in the end, the drawbacks of that transitional period were dwarfed by the creative possibilities & the opportunity to build upon what has worked in DC so far & to help rectify what has not.

“We know we are not going to make every single person happy every step of the way, but we can promise everything we do is done in the service of the STORY & in the service of the DC CHARACTERS we know you cherish and we have cherished our whole lives,” he said.

Gunn concluded, “As for more answers about the future of the DCU, I will sadly have to ask you to wait. We are giving these characters & the stories the time & attention they deserve & we ourselves still have a lot more questions to ask & answer.”
