'Pan’s Labyrinth' Returns to Theaters in 3D for 20th Anniversary This October

Guillermo del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth is heading back to theaters for its 20th anniversary, with Cineverse and Fathom Entertainment announcing a nationwide re-release on October 9, 2026.

The re-release will bring Pan’s Labyrinth back to the big screen in 4K and for the first time in 3D and HDR. A 2D HDR version will also be available. According to the announcement, del Toro oversaw each version created for the anniversary release.

The news was revealed ahead of CinemaCon, where Cineverse is set to promote the title as part of its upcoming 2026 slate.

Pan’s Labyrinth Returns in 3D and HDR

This marks the first theatrical presentation of Pan’s Labyrinth from Cineverse and Fathom Entertainment, and the first time fans will be able to watch the movie in 3D and HDR on the big screen.

The HDR presentation comes through Barco, which is described as offering up to six times higher peak luminance. SDFX Studios handled the stereoscopic 3D work for the release.

Cineverse Chief Motion Pictures Officer Yolanda Macias said Fathom was the right partner to help bring both longtime fans and new viewers back to the film.

Fathom Entertainment CEO Ray Nutt also called Pan’s Labyrinth a modern cinematic masterpiece and said the premium large format options, including 3D, are meant to give audiences the ultimate theatrical experience.

What Pan’s Labyrinth Is About

Originally released in 2006, Pan’s Labyrinth is set in 1944 following the Spanish Civil War.

The story follows young Ofelia, who moves with her pregnant mother into the countryside, where her cruel stepfather Captain Vidal is hunting rebels hiding in the forest. In a nearby labyrinth, Ofelia meets a mysterious Faun who tells her she is really a princess from another world. To reclaim her place, she must complete three tasks.

As her mother’s health worsens, Ofelia is pulled deeper into the dark fantasy world while the brutal reality around her closes in.

The film was written and directed by Guillermo del Toro and produced by his company, Tequila Gang. The cast includes Ivana Baquero, Maribel Verdú, Doug Jones, and Sergi López.

Oscar-Winning Del Toro Classic

Pan’s Labyrinth remains one of Guillermo del Toro’s most acclaimed films.

The movie earned six Academy Award nominations at the 79th Oscars and won three, taking home awards for Cinematography, Art Direction, and Makeup. The press release also notes the film has received 106 wins out of 115 award nominations overall.

The movie continues to be a critical favorite and holds a 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

When Tickets Go On Sale

Tickets for Guillermo del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth 20th Anniversary go on sale September 9, 2026, online and at participating theater box offices.

The nationwide theatrical release is set for October 9, 2026.
