Elliot Page’s Odyssey Role Reportedly Revealed as Sinon, Not Achilles

After months of speculation that ran from Achilles to Elpenor, Elliot Page’s role in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has reportedly been revealed, and it is neither of the characters fans had guessed.

According to a leaked Hungarian voice cast list, Page is playing Sinon, a figure who does not appear in Homer’s Odyssey at all.

The detail was not officially announced by Universal, and Page’s role is still not listed on the film’s official materials or IMDb, so it should be treated as a strong report rather than a confirmation.

This follows our earlier coverage breaking down the Achilles and Elpenor theories. For every confirmed actor and role, see our full Odyssey cast list and our complete Odyssey movie guide.

Where the Sinon Report Came From

The role reveal did not come from an official Universal announcement.

It surfaced through IGN Hungary, which reported that a staffer at UIP-Duna Film, the film’s Hungarian distributor, emailed the outlet a list of the Hungarian voice actors dubbing The Odyssey for its local release.

The list included the character names next to each actor, which is how Page’s role reportedly came to light.

Because the information came from an international dubbing list rather than a formal announcement, it should be approached with some caution.

Dubbing materials sometimes use working role names, may not reflect last-minute secrecy choices, and might not capture every cameo or hidden part.

As of this writing, neither Universal, Nolan, nor Page has publicly confirmed the role, and IMDb has not been updated to reflect it.

That said, the list lines up with the other confirmed casting and provides specific role assignments for nearly the entire principal ensemble, which lends it credibility.

Who Is Sinon?

Sinon is one of the most consequential tricksters in the Trojan War mythology, but his story is not told by Homer in The Odyssey.

His tale appears primarily in Virgil’s Aeneid, where his role is pivotal to the fall of Troy.

When the Greeks pretended to abandon their siege and sailed away, they left the giant wooden horse outside the gates of Troy, and they left Sinon behind with it.

Sinon allowed himself to be captured by the Trojans and told them an elaborate lie: that the Greeks had given up, that the horse was an offering to the goddess Athena, and that it had been built too large to be brought inside the city walls, because if the Trojans did bring it in, they would become invincible.

The Trojans believed him. Against the warnings of the priest Laocoön and the prophetess Cassandra, they hauled the horse inside their walls. That night, the Greek soldiers hidden inside the horse climbed out, opened the city gates, and Troy fell.

Sinon is not a warrior in the traditional sense. His weapon is deception. He is a strategist and a liar whose willingness to be left behind, alone and vulnerable, is what brings down an entire city.

In some accounts, Sinon is also identified as a cousin of Odysseus, which would connect Page’s character directly to Matt Damon’s lead.

Why This Suggests Nolan Is Pulling From More Than Homer

The most significant takeaway from the Sinon report is what it says about the scope of Nolan’s adaptation.

If Page is indeed playing Sinon, it means Nolan is not limiting himself strictly to the text of Homer’s Odyssey.

He is drawing from the broader tradition of Trojan War mythology, including Virgil’s Aeneid, written centuries after Homer.

That suggests Nolan’s film may weave in the fall of Troy and its aftermath rather than focusing narrowly on Odysseus’s journey home.

It is a creative decision that reframes how expansive the film might be.

Including a Trojan Horse figure like Sinon brings the deception that ended the war directly into the story, which could give Odysseus’s ten-year journey home a richer backdrop of guilt, legend, and consequence.

The Full Reported Cast List

The same Hungarian dubbing list provided role assignments for much of the cast. Several of these confirm or clarify roles that had not been officially announced.

According to the list, the cast includes:

  • Matt Damon as Odysseus
  • Tom Holland as Telemachus
  • Anne Hathaway as Penelope
  • Robert Pattinson as Antinous
  • Lupita Nyong’o as Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra
  • Zendaya as Athena
  • Charlize Theron as Calypso
  • Jon Bernthal as Menelaus
  • Benny Safdie as Agamemnon
  • Samantha Morton as Circe
  • John Leguizamo as Eumaeus
  • Mia Goth as Melantho
  • Himesh Patel as Eurylochus
  • Travis Scott as the Bard
  • Bill Irwin as the Cyclops (Polyphemus)
  • Elliot Page as Sinon
  • James Remar as Tiresias
  • Corey Hawkins as Polybus
  • Andrew Howard as Polites
  • Logan Marshall-Green as Melanthius
  • Elyes Gabel as Elatus

Among the more notable clarifications: James Remar is playing Tiresias, the blind prophet Odysseus consults in the Underworld; Logan Marshall-Green, who replaced Cosmo Jarvis in the production, is playing Melanthius, the treacherous goatherd; and Andrew Howard is playing Polites, one of Odysseus’s most trusted companions.

Zendaya Athena The Odyssey

What’s Missing From the List

Just as telling as what the list includes is what it leaves out. Several major figures from Greek mythology and Homer’s epic do not appear on the dubbing list at all.

Athena, played by Zendaya, appears to be the only one of the Greek gods on the list, despite the prominence of Poseidon, Zeus, Hermes, and Helios in the original story.

Also absent are characters such as Cassandra, Aeolus, Nausicaa, and Achilles, the warrior fans originally thought Page might play.

This does not necessarily mean those characters are absent from the film. The list may only cover speaking roles assigned to the Hungarian dub, and Nolan is known for secrecy, so some parts could be deliberately withheld.

But it does suggest Nolan may be taking a selective approach, focusing on family, suitors, shipmates, and a small number of divine and monstrous figures rather than working through every famous name in the mythology.

Elliot Page on Returning to Work With Nolan

Page has history with Nolan, having appeared as the architecture student Ariadne in Inception in 2010. Speaking to Variety, Page described the experience of reuniting with the director.

“I was so excited to be thought of for The Odyssey and to be asked to come back to work with him,” Page said. “I loved working with him on Inception and loved being a part of that movie. I was just completely jazzed and excited.”

Page also reflected on what the reunion meant on a personal level. “To come back now, as you can imagine, being more comfortable in yourself makes these sorts of projects more enjoyable,” Page said.

The Achilles Rumor and the Backlash

The original theory that Page would play Achilles spread widely online and became a flashpoint in the broader casting backlash surrounding the film, which has also targeted the casting of Lupita Nyong’o as Helen of Troy and drew criticism from figures including Elon Musk.

The theory gained traction after Page appeared in the film’s second trailer looking battle-worn and grime-covered, asking Odysseus who is looking after his wife and son.

Fans read that as a hint at a warrior in the Underworld. If the Sinon report is accurate, that scene takes on a different meaning, since Sinon’s story is one of deception and sacrifice rather than combat glory.
