James Gunn Firing May Impact Avengers 4 Says Dave Bautista

Back in July during the week of the San Diego-Comic Con saw Disney fire James Gunn, and now Dave Bautista reveals that Avengers 4 may be impacted by the director’s dismissal from Guardians of the Galaxy 3 and Marvel Studios.

If James Gunn was never fired, the plan was for the Guardians of the Galaxy to return in Avengers 4, and then filming would start on Guardians of the Galaxy 3 in February for the film’s 2020 release date.

However, now things could be changed, and Bautista drops a bomb noting that Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is on permanent hold (and says so again here).

“It’s kind of a strange situation to be in now where we’ve lost our director for Guardians,” Dave Bautista explained to Digital Spy. “Guardians 3 is really up in the air, and I don’t know what they’re going to do with it. It’s on permanent hold for now.”

Bautista continues with mention the ramifactions of firing James Gunn may be felt in Avengers 4.

“And that may make a difference in what they do with our characters in Avengers 4. To be honest with you, right now I really don’t know,” Dave Bautista said.

Similar to what he recently said on Good Morning Britain, the Drax-actor offers he has shot scenes for Avengers 4.

“But I know I’m in Avengers 4. I’ve shot most of it already. I do have two days of reshoots. But other than that, I have some really great scenes that I hope they use. But I guess that it remains to be seen what they’ll do with the characters,” Bautista said.

Regarding what they could do with the characters in Avengers 4 remains to be seen, but could it actually be possible that Disney will let them stay dead and not bring back the Guardians franchise?

Dave Bautista has gone on record stating he doesn’t want to do Guardians of the Galaxy 3 without James Gunn and threatened to quit if they don’t use Gunn’s script. In addition, it has been said Disney noted when the Guardians cast released their statement about rehiring Gunn, that the they realized the cast stopped short of quitting.

Another problem is the fact that no director may want to come on board following James Gunn having created the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise and directed the previous two movies, as what director would want to follow Gunn after the controversy and after so many people have come out in support of him?

To add, Gunn has also said Guardians of the Galaxy 3 will be the last iteration of the team as we know them (at least when he was still involved), so with the characters getting killed off in Infinity War, will Disney simply decide to keep them dead?

The latest on James Gunn is that it has been said he recently had a meeting with Disney about coming back, but that Disney didn’t change their mind, and that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has sided with Disney on the matter.

James Gunn was fired over tweets that resurfaced from ten years ago joking about pedophilia and rape. The tweets resurfaced following Gunn’s political stance on Twitter, which saw right-wing bloggers dig up his old tweets and blog posts, which Disney caught wind of and immeditaly fired the director.

“The offensive attitudes and statements discovered on James’ Twitter feed are indefensible and inconsistent with our studio’s values, and we have severed our business relationship with him,” Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn said in a statement.

While the tweets were really, really disturbing, Gunn’s “sense of humor” wasn’t a surprise as following having signed with Marvel Studios back around 2012, feminist liberal websites blasted the director for various jokes on his website, which saw Gunn apologize for; however, he was still allowed to remain with Marvel Studios and write and direct the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, but in the “#metoo” era, we see that Disney obviously thought things went too far.

Following his dismissal, Gunn offered the following apology:

“My words of nearly a decade ago were, at the time, totally failed and unfortunate efforts to be provocative. I have regretted them for many years since — not just because they were stupid, not at all funny, wildly insensitive, and certainly not provocative like I had hoped, but also because they don’t reflect the person I am today or have been for some time.”

“Regardless of how much time has passed, I understand and accept the business decisions taken today. Even these many years later, I take full responsibility for the way I conducted myself then. All I can do now, beyond offering my sincere and heartfelt regret, is to be the best human being I can be: accepting, understanding, committed to equality, and far more thoughtful about my public statements and my obligations to our public discourse. To everyone inside my industry and beyond, I again offer my deepest apologies. Love to all.”
