Venom 3 Box Office Tracking Lower Than Thought

Megan Thee Stallion certainly didn’t help things as it’s learned the Venom 3 box office is tracking even lower than thought.

Just a week ago saw the estimates all over the place as tracking offered Venom 3 could open to a franchise high of $100 million or a franchise low of $70 million.

Now the latest estimates are lower.

What are the Venom: The Last Dance box office estimates?

According to Deadline, Venom: The Last Dance is currently tracking for a franchise low of only $65 million. The first movie opened to $80 million and the sequel opened to $90 million.

The site says U.S.-Canada presales are tracking for an opening of $65M, where Deadline points out it’s lower than Black Adam‘s $67M opening. Ouch.

Venom 3 is also the most expensive of the franchise coming in at $120M, not including marketing. The flick looks to add another $85M from foreign markets and should open to at least $150M.

Word-of-mouth will be a big factor

As I recently went over, this looks like another do-or-die flick based on word-of-mouth. Fans will get their first chance to see Venom: The Last Dance on Thursday when the diehard fanboys show up for previews, with reactions hitting social media, so that will be our first indication if the flick is any good.

The first reactions actually hit social media today from various premieres, but per the norm, they’re overwhelmingly positive. Sure, that’s a good sign, but those types of first reactions are always positive and have basically become meaningless.

The fans also only gave the two previous films a “B+” CinemaScore, which isn’t all that good for comic book movies. Over at Rotten Tomatoes, the fan scores are also on the low side for CBM’s at 80% for Venom and 84% for Let There Be Carnage. Rotten Tomatoes Scores should become available Friday. We can also add Sony’s Marvel track record isn’t good (Kraven, cross your fingers).

Since Rotten Tomatoes also now requires users to purchase tickets through their Fandango app which negates fan reviews, we’ve launched our own fan review site that doesn’t require use of Fandango. You can rate and review Venom 3 after you see it at StinkyGarbage.com.
