Superman: Legacy Costume, Symbol Hinted At: Filming Starts Soon

Summary

  • Things are heating up for James Gunn’s Superman with potential leaks of the new Man of Steel symbol and David Corenswet’s costume
  • Filming is set to begin next week, with it known filming will take place in Atlanta and Cleveland
  • Fans have noticed that the new symbol resembles the one from Kingdom Come and the 1941 Fleischer Superman cartoon.

Things are starting to fly with James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy as the symbol may have leaked early along with a potential look at David Corenswet’s costume.

It’s also learned that Gunn will start filming as early as next week, said to be sometime between February 26th and March 1st. Filming locations currently known include Atlanta, Georgia and the birthplace of the Man of Steel, Cleveland, Ohio.

Regarding the symbol and the new costume, thanks to Hawkgirl actress Isabela Merced, the Superman: Legacy logo/symbol looks to be adapted from Kingdom Come and possibly the 1941 Fleischer Superman Cartoon.

Merced participated in the recent table read offering a first look at a bald Nicholas Hoult, and eagle-eyed fans spotted her nameplate featuring what appears to be the new “S’ symbol in black and white.

Inspired by previous versions of the Man of Steel

Fans noticed the “S” looks a lot like Superman’s chest symbol from the Kingdom Come comics, and I believe the 1941 Fleischer Superman cartoon is the first to have used black in the symbol.

It’s known Gunn is paying tribute to the Donner movies, so it could very be that Gunn is also paying homage to previous versions of the Man of Steel. Gunn previously described the new suit and offered when it would be released to the public.

Regarding the new costume, fan art might show what David Corenswet’s new costume looks like with that version of the “S” symbol.
