James Gunn Filming Superman In Cleveland, Birthplace Of Man of Steel

It’s learned that James Gunn is bringing the Man of Steel home to Cleveland to film the new Superman: Legacy movie which kickstarts the new DCU starring David Corenswet.

The creators of Superman, Jerry Siegel and Joe Schuster, created Superman while they lived in Cleveland, Ohio. The Shuster family moved from Toronto to Cleveland in 1924, and Jerry Siegel grew up on Kimberly Avenue, with the home now a Ohio Historical Marker.

The first appearance of Superman was in Action Comics #1 published April 18, 1938.

James Gunn and Superman: Legacy awarded $11 million+

The Ohio Department of Development announced the state has awarded $44 million in tax credits for TV and Film production in Ohio.

Listed includes the working title for Gunn’s Superman: Legacy movie, “Genesis,” which has received over $11 million in tax credits.

“Investing in these productions fuels the vibrant creativity that’s alive in Ohio’s communities and serves as a powerful catalyst for economic growth,” said Lydia Mihalik, director of the Ohio Department of Development. “These projects celebrate and showcase our diverse landscapes, generate jobs, stimulate local businesses, and create a lasting legacy for the arts in Ohio.”

It has been said James Gunn is due to start filming Superman: Legacy in March, and it has been said Gunn is currently in Atlanta, Georgia where he has been prepping for filming which includes casting new Supergirl, Milly Alcock.

Superman: Legacy gets released on July 11, 2025 also starring Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern Guy Gardner, and Edi Gathegi playing Mister Terrific. María Gabriela de Faría is also playing The Engineer from The Authority described as a “villain.” Skyler Gisondo is Jimmy Olsen, and Sara Sampaio is Eve Teschmacher. Nicholas Hoult is Lex Luthor. Sean Gunn is playing Maxwell Lord in the DCU, though it’s not clear if he will be in Superman: Legacy. It’s also rumored Supergirl will appear in the film prior to her own solo movie.

DC describes Superman: Legacy as telling the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.
