Milly Alcock is officially back as Supergirl in James Gunn’s Superman follow-up, Man of Tomorrow.
Following speculation after Alcock was spotted in Atlanta, Variety has now confirmed the actress will return as Kara Zor-El in Gunn’s next DCU movie.
In Variety’s piece, DC Studios co-head Peter Safran also says Supergirl is “a major part” of what they are doing with the movie.
Gunn then backed it up himself on social media, responding to the report by saying, “I’m shooting with her now. She’s wonderful.”

Supergirl Expected To Help Superman Against Brainiac
The speculation surrounding Man of Tomorrow is that Supergirl will help Superman take on Brainiac, with Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor added to the mix to save Earth.
Brainiac makes sense as a villain for a Superman follow-up, especially with Supergirl involved. The character has deep ties to Krypton in DC Comics, including the bottled city of Kandor and the wider mythology surrounding Superman and Supergirl’s home planet.
The actor playing Brainiac, Lars Eidinger, recently described the DC villain as the incarnation of Satan.
Kara’s presence also gives Gunn a way to expand the DCU’s Kryptonian story through both Superman and Supergirl instead of keeping the two characters separate.

Man of Tomorrow Builds The DCU
Man of Tomorrow stars David Corenswet as Superman, with Nicholas Hoult back as Lex Luthor.
Alcock first debuts as Kara in Supergirl, out next month, but Man of Tomorrow now looks to make her a key part of Superman’s next chapter.
“At its core, it’s about Clark and Lex. I relate to both of them. I relate to Lex’s ambition and obsession — minus the murder. And I relate to Superman’s belief in people, his Midwestern values. They’re two sides of me,” Gunn previously said about the film.
Man of Tomorrow opens in theaters on July 9, 2027.
