Robocop TV Series In The Works With James Wan Producing

A RoboCop TV series is in the works at Amazon MGM Studios which will see James Wan onboard as executive producer through his Atom Monster production company.

The details include that Peter Ocko, known for Lodge 49, Black Sails, and more is writing, executive producing, and will be the showrunner of the potential series.

According to Deadline, the RoboCop TV series will follow the premise of the films, focusing on a giant tech conglomerate which collaborates with the local police department to introduce a technologically advanced enforcer to combat rising crime — a police officer who’s part man, part machine.

In addition to Wan and Ocko, also executive producing includes Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett for Atomic Monster. Danielle Bozzone is overseeing for Atomic Monster.

The RoboCop franchise is a science fiction action series that began with the original RoboCop film, released in 1987, directed by Paul Verhoeven. Set in a dystopian future Detroit, the story follows Alex Murphy, a police officer who is brutally killed in the line of duty but is resurrected as a powerful cyborg by Omni Consumer Products (OCP), a megacorporation that controls the city’s law enforcement. As RoboCop, Murphy struggles with his loss of humanity while upholding the law and battling corruption within OCP and the criminal underworld.

Following the success of the first film, the RoboCop franchise expanded to include several sequels, including RoboCop 2 (1990) and RoboCop 3 (1993), which saw diminishing critical and commercial returns. Despite the mixed reception of the sequels, the character remained a pop culture icon. The franchise also extended into various forms of media, including animated TV series, live-action television shows, comic books, and video games.

In 2014, a reboot of RoboCop was released, which retold the origin story in a more modernized setting, though it lacked the original’s satirical edge. Despite mixed reviews, the reboot reintroduced the character to a new generation of fans.

A recent first-person shooter video game was also released, RoboCop: Rogue City, to critical and fan acclaim and is based on the original trilogy of films as an all-new adventure featuring Peter Weller as RoboCop.
