Prime Video has set the premiere date for its American Gladiators reboot and also released the official key art for Season 1.
The new series premieres April 17 on Prime Video, with Mike “The Miz” Mizanin and Rosci Diaz hosting the competition revival.
American Gladiators release schedule
Prime Video will roll out the ten-episode season across three Fridays.
The first three episodes debut on April 17. Three more episodes follow on April 24. The final four episodes then arrive on May 1.
Prime Video says the reboot will stream exclusively in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
What the new series is about
The reboot keeps the same basic setup that made American Gladiators popular in the first place.
Each episode features amateur male and female contenders from across the country entering the Arena to take on 16 new American Gladiators. The goal is simple. Survive the events, beat the competition, and make it to the top.
Prime Video says the series will include classic events such as Joust, Powerball, Hang Tough, and The Wall. It will also introduce new events including The Ring and Collision.
At the end of the competition, one man and one woman will each win $100,000 and earn the title of American Gladiator Champion.
Prime Video leans into nostalgia
The new key art makes it clear Prime Video is going all in on the brand. The poster puts the new Gladiators front and center with the same kind of larger-than-life look fans remember from the original series.
That should help the reboot with older viewers who grew up on American Gladiators, while also giving Prime Video another recognizable competition title to add to its lineup.
Who is behind the reboot
American Gladiators is created and executive produced by Johnny C. Ferraro.
Daniel Calin serves as showrunner and executive producer alongside Barry Poznick. Susan Janis-Mashayekhi, Sarah Happel Jackson, and Adam Cooper are co-executive producers. Ramy Romany directs the series.
The reboot is produced by Amazon MGM Studios.
