Good News: Zendaya Says No To Mary Jane For Spider-Man: Homecoming

I didn't think Kevin Feige was going to disappoint us, and now that appears to be the case as Zendaya flat out says she isn't playing Mary Jane in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

“I’m not Mary Jane unfortunately, but I am in the movie which is exciting,” Zendaya told Entertainment Tonight.

“Wait, you’re not Mary Jane?” the interview continued, with Zendaya again saying, "No."

It has been said Mary Jane is playing a character named Michelle in Spider-Man: Homecoming, but it's also been said Marvel intentionally threw bloggers off by using different names during production.

"My character’s name is Michelle,” Zendaya said. "That's what everybody wants to think. I'm going to let people think whatever they want to think," Zendaya added with a wink.

It's also been said Spider-Man: Homecoming will feature an Easte Egg of sorts at the end of the movie which sees Peter call Zendaya's character "MJ," which may mean, while Zendaya technically isn't Mary Jane Watson from the comics, it would appear as if Marvel and Sony are moving in a different direction (because it would be kind of weird later down the road to have another character called MJ).

Zenda also offered her thoughts about working on Spider-Man: Homecoming.

“It’s incredible, you know? It’s such a huge project to be part of,” Zenda said. “I mean, who could pick a better thing to be your first movie? Like, I’m speechless. If I could pick a movie, it would be Spider-Man, so I got it.”
