X-Men, Fantastic Four Announcements From Marvel A Ways Off

It turns out all those D23 Expo rumors from various “scoopers” were all wrong, particularly in regards to Fantastic Four.

Rumors have offered the cast of Fantastic Four would be announced by Marvel at the D23 Expo on Saturday but that didn’t happen (check out all the announcements here).

So what gives?

Reporters for THR and Deadline weigh in on things and offer announcements for Fantastic Four are a ways off as well as any announcements about the X-Men.

Why no Fantastic Four D23 Expo announcements from Marvel?

Regarding Fantastic Four, Kevin Feige didn’t even bring Matt Shakman on stage for the announcement about Shakman directing.

“Feige points to director Matt Shakman in the audience. Confirms he is helming the FANTASTIC FOUR movie. Why isn’t he on stage? Feige asks. Because we have nothing else to say or show. There will be another D23 before it comes,” tweeted THR’s Borys Kit.

Deadline’s Justin Kroll added in another tweet, “So there were all these rumors leading up to D23 of a cast reveal and going forward here some ways to temper expectations. Feige for the most part, does not want to make big casting decisions without getting input from his director.”

Kroll continued, “There are exceptions like Mahershala being cast early on for BLADE role but something where its a team like F4 or X-MEN, Feige would prefer that director input and since Matt only got job a couple weeks ago very unlikely any casting decisions were made.”

The X-Men are years away, too

About the X-Men, Kroll tweeted, “Speaking of X-MEN, this film isn’t happening for a very long time, so outside of a writer being tapped, it’s super unlikely any casting decisions get made on that one for some time.”

So according to this info above, a Fantastic Four announcement from Marvel might be a year away, unless the trades report on the casting earlier.

Fantastic Four has a November 8, 2024 release date which is more than two years away, so just as Feige said, there is a lot of time for announcements.

Regarding the X-Men, Ms. Marvel is confirmed to be the MCU’s first mutant, but that doesn’t seem to relate to the X-Men, and while She-Hulk did tease Wolverine, it’s not like it was anything major.

There is actually a rumor out there that Kevin Feige doesn’t want to move forward with the X-Men in the MCU anytime soon because Disney and Marvel would have to give producer credit (and payments) to Simon Kinberg and Bryan Singer due to their contracts with Fox Studios, and that Feige wants to wait until their contracts expires to introduce the X-Men into the MCU.
