Val Kilmer has died at the age of 65. The actor is known for a plethora of roles, including having played the Dark Knight in Batman Forever, Iceman in Top Gun, Doc Holliday in Tombstone, Jim Morrison in The Doors, and Willow, among others.
Kilmer died as a result of pneumonia, as confirmed by his daughter, Mercedes Kilmer, to the New York Times. She noted he was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014, but later recovered. Kilmer passed Tuesday in Los Angeles. He was born December 31, 1959.
The actor’s most recent social media post of himself was about Batman. Kilmer is known for selling his art. He posted a video and images of his art and of himself putting on a Batman cowl.
His last social media post came on March 22 featuring more of his art.
“It’s got that late-night glow. Cool tones with a low burn, like when the camp fire cools down but you’re still wide awake,” he wrote.
Val Kilmer started off as a Juilliard-trained stage actor. He was born in Los Angeles, California. In 1984 he broke into Hollywood with Top Secret! followed by achieving fame in 1985’s Real Genius and then in Top Gun in 1986. Two TV appearances would follow, and then he would star in 1988’s Willow and 1991’s The Doors. Tombstone was released in 1993. Batman Forever was released in 1995, along with Heat, also released that same year. In 2022, Kilmer marked his final performance returning as Goose in Top Gun: Maverick.
