Tom Cruise signs for Universal’s scifi ‘Oblivion’ from Radical Comics

picTom Cruise has committed to the $100 million adaption of the Radical Comics Graphic Novel, “Oblivion,” with Universal Pictures.

Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski is on-board to helm (as he is also credited as a creator on the GN), with a William Monahan script being reworked by Karl Gajdusek.

Initially the rights were bought up by Disney, but they let it slide stating it didn’t fit in with their family line of movies as they wanted “Oblivion” to be PG-Rated.

Universal picked it up and now it’s going to be PG-13.

I haven’t read the comic (yet!) but it sounds interesting.

Here’s the official description for the GN from Radical Publishing:

From Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski and critically acclaimed creator Arvid Nelson (Rex Mundi) comes an original sci-fi adventure of epic proportions.

In a future where the Earth’s surface has been irradiated beyond recognition, the remnants of humanity live above the clouds, safe from the brutal alien Scavengers that stalk the ruins. But when surface drone repairman Jak discovers a mysterious woman in a crash-landed pod, it sets off an unstoppable chain of events that will force him to question everything he knows.

Creator : Joseph Kosinski
Writer: Arvid Nelson
Artist: Andreé Wallin
