The Penguin Season 2 looks like it could be moving forward, as the Writers Guild of America has updated its listings with a second season of the HBO DC series.
The WGA listing shows The Penguin Season 2 for 2025-2026, with Lauren LeFranc listed as showrunner and executive producer. Semi Chellas is also listed as a consulting producer.
HBO has not officially announced The Penguin Season 2, so nothing is confirmed yet. However, a WGA listing is a lot more interesting than a random rumor, especially with LeFranc attached after steering the first season.

The Penguin Season 2 Appears On WGA
The WGA update follows months of talk about the show possibly continuing.
The WGA listing now includes details for The Penguin Season 2, with LeFranc returning and Chellas joining as consulting producer. Matt Reeves previously said the team was “in discussions” about continuing the story.
The WGA listing could be a sign of active development, though again, HBO and DC Studios have not made an official announcement.
HBO boss Casey Bloys previously said they were talking with the DC team about what a second season could look like. Peter Safran also sounded less certain earlier in 2025, saying there were “a lot of moving pieces,” including Colin Farrell.
Farrell has also left the door open, saying he would return if Matt Reeves, Dylan Clark, and Lauren LeFranc came up with a strong enough story for Oz. Farrell is also set to return as Penguin in The Batman: Part II.

Season 1 Turned Oz Cobb Into Gotham’s New Kingpin
The first season of The Penguin picked up after the events of The Batman, with Gotham still reeling from the Riddler’s flood.
Colin Farrell returned as Oz Cobb, who used the power vacuum left behind by Carmine Falcone’s death to climb through Gotham’s criminal underworld. The series focused less on Batman and more on Oz’s rise, showing how far he was willing to go to take control.
Cristin Milioti also became one of the show’s biggest standouts as Sofia Falcone. Her story gave the season its strongest emotional hook, while also setting her up as one of Oz’s biggest threats.
By the finale, Oz had finally positioned himself as Gotham’s top crime boss, but he destroyed almost every personal connection around him to get there. He betrayed Victor, manipulated his mother, and proved he was willing to sacrifice anyone for power.
The ending also tied directly into the larger Batman universe, with the Bat-Signal lighting up over Gotham and making it clear Oz’s rise would not go unnoticed forever.

Matt Reeves Has Started Camera Testing On The Batman: Part II
The WGA update also comes as Matt Reeves has started showing signs of life on The Batman: Part II.
Reeves recently posted camera test images on X, including shots tied to “snow tires,” with fans quickly speculating about a snowy Gotham and a possible Mr. Freeze tease.
Reeves posted a screen test showing a car driving through a snowstorm, while also interacting with fans and teasing more from the winter setting.
The Batman: Part II is currently set to open October 1, 2027.
