Tom Hiddleston Questions Whether People Want More Loki (Video)

What’s up with the future of Tom Hiddleston as Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

Just a few days ago saw Tom Hiddleston mention he isn’t sure when he is going to play Loki again, and now while speaking with MTV in the above video questions whether or not people actually want to see him return as the Asgardian Trickster.

Here’s the blurb:

I never quite know. I don’t quite know whether people want to see him again or whether people want to move on. I don’t know. I really can’t take the temperature on it. It’s so difficult because it feels like if it ever happened again, I would try not to repeat myself. I would try to do something new. I never want to feel like I am sort of retreading the same steps. I guess it’s like any actor who plays a character over and over again. I wonder what it’s like for the guys who play the Avengers. I think they feel the same thing. They want to… each time they want to take it on, take it in a new direction.

From my own point of view, this seems rather odd as Loki (and Hiddleston) is easily one of the most popular characters in the MCU. Loki starred in the Thor movies and The Avengers and even took Comic-Con by storm when he made a surprise appearance staying in character. A while back there was also lots of talk (at least amongst fans) about a potential Loki solo movie. Hiddleston also has a pretty big fan base that calls themselves “Loki’s Army” as they petitioned Marvel for a Loki movie that netted over 37,000 signatures.

I’m not exactly sure when things went sour(?) with Hiddleston and Marvel, but something seemed off during Avengers 2 as Whedon wanted to include Hiddleston, but Marvel told Whedon that Hiddleston wasn’t available. Well, Whedon went out a got a hold of Hiddleston himself, who said he would be happy to do Avengers 2. But guess what? Marvel brass cut Hiddleston, anyway.

Something else that is pretty odd is that Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige already confirmed Tom Hiddleston for Thor: Ragnarok. Feige remarked that of course Hiddleston would be returning for Thor 3 when Marvel announced their Phase 3 slate last year.

Is the problem Marvel or Hiddleston? As the above video questions, is Tom Hiddleston tired of playing Loki?

I say bring on more Loki. I never get tired of watching Hiddleston on screen.

Tom Hiddleston Might Not Return For Thor 3?

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22177:]]

Something seems amiss in the land of Asgard as Loki’s glorious purpose may be coming to an end.

Josh Whedon recently let it be known that Marvel initially told him Tom Hiddleston was unavailable for The Avengers: Age Of Ultron; however, when Whedon talked to the actor himself, Hiddleston agreed to do the movie — but Marvel cut Hiddleston’s scene anyway.

Now having Loki featured in Thor 3 seems to be up in the air as well, and this is after Kevin Feige already confirmed Hiddleston for Thor 3.

Tom Hiddleston’s latest movie, Crimson Peak, hits next month, and Coming Soon talked with the actor about Loki, who mentioned he doesn’t even know if Loki is going to happen again.

You know, I don’t know. I think I won’t be able to help it if I ever play him again, and I just don’t know when that’s gonna happen, if that’s gonna happen.

It’s possible Hiddleston could just be playing coy, as the actor does mention he has talked with Chris Hemsworth.

I would never lose [Loki’s] dimension, but it’s so interesting. I’ve talked with Chris Hemsworth, how those characters have changed as we’ve changed. It’s five years ago since I played him for the first time. That’s a long time ago. So who knows what I’ll be cooking up!

Tom Hiddleston also responds “maybe” when it’s mentioned Loki will have more tricks up his sleeve, which may point to Hiddleston’s return as the Asgardian Trickster not being guaranteed.

Almost a year ago saw Kevin Feige confirm that Tom Hiddleston would be returning for Thor: Ragnarok when Marvel announced their Phase 3 slate of movies, so perhaps our worries are unfounded, but at one time there was even talk of a Loki movie (at least among the fans), and with Loki being cut from Avengers 2, Marvel seems to be missing the boat. Additional Loki scenes were added to Thor: The Dark World, so it could be possible Loki was cut from Avengers 2 as to not to oversaturate the character’s appearances; however, can there ever be enough of Loki?

“Crimson Peak” hits October 15, 2015; “Thor: Rangarok” has a November 3, 2017 release.

Watch: Tom Hiddleston Loki Cut Footage From Avengers 2 Blu-Ray

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22024:]]

Much to the dismay of Loki fans around the world, Marvel cut Tom Hiddleston from The Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Initially, Marvel told Joss Whedon that Hiddleston couldn’t even be in the movie, but when Whedon actually talked to Hiddleston, Tom said he would appear in The Avengers 2.

Then when it came down to it, Marvel cut Tom Hiddleston from the Thor cave scene (maybe at the hands of the Marvel Creative Committee?).

Now video of Tom Hiddleston in The Avengers: Age Of Ultron has hit the net from what appears to be footage from the Blu-Ray.

It’s not much, but at least you can get your Loki fix while we wait for Tom Hiddleston in Thor 3.

Michael Keaton & JK Simmons Exit King Kong Skull Island

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21193:]]

It’s learned that both Michael Keaton and JK Simmons have exited Legendary’s King Kong Skull Island movie.

Deadline cites scheduling issues as the reason.

Michael Keaton was recently named on a new comic book movie with Imagine Agents, in which he will both star and produce.

J.K. Simmons, current starring in Terminator: Genisys, is a fan hopeful to return to the Spider-Man franchise as J. Jonah Jameson, and interestingly enough, this follows the news of Marvel announcing Tom Holland as Spider-Man. Obviously, the two may not be connected, but at least there is some hope there.

Tom Hiddleston is still on board Skull Island.

Kong: Skull: Island has a March 10, 2017 directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts with a script by John Gatins and Max Borenstein.

Synopsis:

In the spirit of its worldwide blockbuster Godzilla, Legendary Pictures presents a bold new take on the mythos of another iconic beast with Kong: Skull Island, which stars Tom Hiddleston (The Avengers and Thor series).

Directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts (The Kings of Summer) and written by John Gatins(Flight) and Max Borenstein (Godzilla), Kong: Skull Island will fully immerse audiences in the mysterious and dangerous home of the king of the apes as a team of explorers ventures deep inside the treacherous, primordial island. Legendary’s story honors the foundations of existing King Kong lore, but places it in an entirely new, distinct timeline.

Thomas Tull (Godzilla, The Dark Knight, Pacific Rim) and Jon Jashni (Godzilla, Warcraft) will produce and Alex Garcia (Godzilla) will executive produce. The film will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D by Universal Pictures.

Watch: Tom Hiddleston Talk Thor 3

Check out video above of Tom Hiddleston from the BAFTAs where the Loki actor briefly mentions Thor 3.

Thor 3 is happening at some point. And the last time we saw Loki he was on the throne so there is some questions to be answered,” Hiddleston said. “I love the character. It’s a great great character. It’s amazing how the whole Marvel world has been embraced by people who love films. It’s fun.”

Chris Hemsworth also mentioned Thor 3 recently teasing it’s a “big one” as well as mentioning how The Avengers 2 will be an impact on the third film in the franchise.

Speaking of impacts, Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige previously said more of the same when he mentioned Thor 3 will take things to another level.

“This is a very important movie for us in our Phase 3 timeline,” Feige said regarding Thor 3. “As the Russo’s did so well reinventing Captain America in the Winter Soldier and changing everything that would come after it, that is the plan for Thor: Ragnarok — to take Thor to another level of his own franchise and in fact picks up right after we leave him in The Avengers 2 and will impact everything to come afterwards.”

“Thor: Ragnarok” has a July 28, 2017 release.

Kevin’s Fantasy Draft: Command and Conquer: Liesbesman, Renner, Beckinsale, Hiddleston

(Editor’s Note: The following is part of The First Cosmic Book News Fantasy Hollywood Draft; keyword being “fantasy”)

Command and Conquer: First Strike

by: Kevin Faltisco

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:2006:]]My fantasy Hollywood movie is a Command and Conquer adaptation that could potentially span somewhere around four movies. I would not want a simple rehashing of the events that take place in the games themselves, but rather, a side story of sorts that takes place during the same timeframe. Jonathan Liesbesman will direct all the movies as he has experience with war films that feature very intelligent aliens using a traditional chain of command (for when the alien race of The Scrin get involved).

The Picks and extras:

Jonathan Liesbesman – The director of Battle: LA is capable of portraying combat between humans and aliens which will be the main focus as the command and conquer story starts to unfold and the Scrin are introduced. He also was able to capture large scale battles as well as follow a small group of soldiers on the ground and make it all seem relevant and connected which would be pivotal to the success of a Command and Conquer movie.

Jeremy Renner – Well versed in the role of playing a slightly egotistical badass, will fit very well into the role of a Commando from the world of Command and Conquer. Commandos are the elite soldiers of GDI forces whom in the game were able to one-shot-kill any infantry and plant C4 on any building destroying it immediately upon detonation. There will be plenty of room for ego with this role, and he will most certainly be able to be a hardcore badass.

Kate Beckinsale – Jeremy’s female commando partner — who was picked as a little nod towards Tanya from the Command and Conquer: Red Alert series. Tanya was a dual pistol wielding chick who tore apart anyone in her path without breaking a sweat. Sound like another role we have already seen her in?!

Michelle Rodriguez – A staple in most humans vs aliens movies who has proven herself as an actress capable of pulling of a grizzled infantrymen or pilot on numerous occasions.

Charles Dance as Commander Sheppard – With his recent work in Game of Thrones playing Tywin Lannister, he should have absolutely no problem playing the leader of GDI’s military forces. His voice is also naturally strong and commanding, which was how Commander Sheppard was depicted in C&C.

Judi Dench – Her role in several James Bond films sets her up perfectly to play a high ranking GDI officer who is willing to pull some string to get what she wants, even if it meant she would have to attempt to save face afterwards. She, too, has a very commanding voice and is not afraid to raise it while acting, which when dealing with commandos you will almost always have to do, seeing as they tend to let weapons do the talking…

John Cleese – The man who has been portraying Q in James Bond films since the passing of Desmond Llewelyn is the perfect choice to play the head of GDI’s scientific division tasked with exploring the potentials of tiberium and tiberium harvesting.

Joseph D. Kucan – The man who has pulled off the iconic role of Kane in every C&C game featuring Kane is the only choice to play this role because putting anyone else in the role would be pure blasphemy.

Tom Hiddleston – His work with the Loki character is absolutely astounding and makes him the perfect choice for a main character in Nod’s army. The slightly psychotic undertone that he gave his character will serve him well in the role of the head of The Black Hand, and will synergize with Kane’s very well.

Cillian Murphy – Yet another actor who can pull off psychotic villains and also has played a crazy scientist, which he will do again. Playing the head of Nod’s research and development team it will allow viewers to see the intentions of Nod more clearly and far faster than it was in the games.

The Movie:

A meteorite smashes into the earth near the Tiber river in Italy, leaving behind a substance dubbed Tiberium that has peculiar properties. It is [[wysiwyg_imageupload:2007:]]able to absorb minerals from the soil and crystallize them; however, this process causes extremely toxic gases to be expelled. The scientific community is quick to respond to this new resource and it rapidly becomes the most sought after resource with trade markets opening up almost immediately. Meanwhile the quasi-religious secret society of The Brotherhood of Nod has somehow foreseen the capabilities of Tiberium and has already made ways to harvest it.

The Global Defense Initiative (GDI) has been protecting the majority of the free world with the help of the UN from any and all adversaries. GDI combines armies from America, and Europe mostly, with a few other smaller countries contributing resources to the defensive effort. Sensing an eventual war with GDI, Nod massacres the inhabitants of a village and quickly runs a smear campaign that declares GDI as the perpetrators. As a result, GDI’s loyalty and discipline is called into question and their funding is cut. They must now work to protect the free world from Nod’s forces with limited supplies and strive to keep the greatest minds of the world safe, as it has become clear that Nod is targeting leading scientists around the world.

While the majority of GDI’s forces race around the world to gather up the scientists and secure vital assets to Tiberium research and defensive strong points, an elite task force of GDI commandos and support units are sent on a classified mission to acquire the location of Nod’s main base of operations and find its headquarters. It is also believed that Nod is working toward putting a much grander plan in motion to dissolve GDI entirely.

Since the games allowed for you to play through the campaign for both GDI and Nod, there is potential for the series to swing both ways in terms of who “wins” at the end of each movie allowing for a series that follows in the footsteps of Star Wars where certain movies are more focused on a particular side coming out on top.
