Avengers & X-Men Crossover Not Being Seriously Considered

Following Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn stating not to believe the rumors about Fox and Disney, now Deadpool director Tim Miller and executive producer Simon Kinberg say more of the same.

Miller and Kinberg spoke with CBR, where Miller notes he doesn’t think “anybody would seriously consider it” due to the legal issues and such.

Miller: I’m ready for it, but the studios are not ready for it.

Kinberg: We would love it. I mean, Tim and I talked about it quite a bit. We grew up on comics that did it all the time, quite freely. Not just within the Marvel Universe, but outside the Marvel Universe. So it’d be rad to see it. Those decisions are made by people at a much higher part of the food chain than Tim and I — we just go execute it.

But yeah, we would love it, and we certainly each have a really good relationship with Kevin Feige. Maybe one day there’s a sit-down, “Godfather”-style dinner where we could broker a deal. It’d be cool.

Miller: I honestly can say, as an adult who works in this industry, you certainly can see all the reasons why it doesn’t happen. The corporate inertia, just the lawyering of that deal alone is so daunting that I don’t think anybody would seriously consider it.

But as a fan, you just want to go, “Fuck man! Why can’t I see that?” Because that’s what I got in comic books. What’s more, they had DC/Marvel crossover events that were just stupendous. On a creative level, you just want to say that comic books is just a huge world. I read Marvel, and I read DC, and I read Image, and I read small independent publishers. I’ve got a “Goon” comic book from Dark Horse. I love all of that stuff. To me, it’s all one big world.

The previous Avengers and X-Men rumor stated a crossover movie was happening in 2020, with a second rumor stating the X-Men was going to be rebooted within the MCU following X-Men: Apocalypse.

Tim Miller and Simon Kinberg Want Avengers X-Men Marvel Crossover

Both Deadpool director Tim Miller and executive producer/writer of the X-Men movies Simon Kinberg talk about the potential of an Avengers and X-Men Marvel crossover.

“I would love to some day in part heal the rift between the world of X-Men and the world of Avengers,” Tim Miller told Crave Online.

“Yeah, I think we all would,” Simon Kinberg added. “There’s so much crossover in the comics it would be neat to one day be able see those characters share a movie.”

“Kevin [Feige] is so awesome,” Miller said. “Did you see my little pizza box in one of the scenes? ‘Feige’s Famous Pizza’ — that was my little.. trying to bring these worlds together.”

“Both of us are actually quite close with Kevin and have a profound amount of respect for what he does,” Kinberg offered. “And it would be fun to all team up one day, somehow, together, if that could work.”

“I think it’s a super smart move with Spider-Man. I mean, he’s great,” Miller said.

Miller also offered a resounding “no” when asked if he would like Gwenpool (good answer).

Regarding an X-Men and Avengers crossover, the latest rumor states that it’s happening after X-Men: Apocalypse with a movie possibly coming in 2020.

It also probably helps that long time X-Men producer Lauren Schuler Donner also happens to be friends with Feige as well as the two have worked together in the past.

Keep your fingers crossed.

Cable Confirmed For Deadpool 2

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21668:]]

Assuming there is a sequel to Tim Miller and Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool, it’s basically confirmed the movie will feature Cable.

While commenting on the recent Deadpool trailer, director Tim Miller mentioned if Cable isn’t in the sequel, fans will riot.

“There aren’t really many definitive Deadpool villains, apart from Cable,” Miller told Empire. “If we don’t put Cable in Deadpool 2 I think we’ll be run out of town on a rail.”

A sequel for Deadpool has yet to be green lit, but if the trailer reaction is anything to go by, Deadpool should do a lot better than Fantastic Four.

Cable has been tied to Deadpool since the character’s origins as Deadpool was hired to attack Cable and the New Mutants. The two have also been paired together in various Marvel comic book series, with Marvel recently announcing a new six-issue digital-first Deadpool and Cable “Split Second” series as well for October.

Ryan Reynolds Hopes Deadpool Is R-Rated & More (Video)

We get more from Ryan Reynolds above talking Deadpool.

Reynolds previously stated they are doing Deadpool the right way, and now Reynolds talks briefly about a potential R-rating for the movie and also about director Tim Miller.

While Reynolds can’t say much, he offers a lot of testing is coming up, but he does have the following to say about Miller:

“[He’s] always been the right guy.  He’s always, you know, shown nothing but a fierce loyalty to the canon of Deadpool and that’s the thing you look for first and foremost, a guy that is always wanting to push a little bit farther.  And the advantage of doing a movie like this on a budget that is significantly less than any other kind of superhero movie is that you get to do things that you don’t get to do on other superhero movies so that’s what we’re most excited about.”

Regarding an R-rating for Deadpool, Reynolds doesn’t want to spoil anything, but does hope that is the case.

“I have no idea … I don’t want to spoil anything so we’ll see.  We hope.”

Deadpool has a February 12, 2016 release.
