Ryan Reynolds Reflects On Green Lantern; Deadpool Makes Fun

The latest issue of Empire Magazine features Deadpool on the cover with a featured article on the movie as well as Ryan Reynolds with a mention of the Green Lantern movie.

Ryan Reynolds played Green Lantern for Warner Bros. back in 2011, which is considered a flop; Reynolds offered the following about working on the film:

“That’s the only time I’ve traversed into that mega-budget territory, and it was a slightly terrifying place to be,” Reynolds said. “You really need a visionary behind a movie like that, but it was the classic studio story: “We have a poster, but we don’t have a script or know what we want; let’s start shooting!”

While Reynolds also admitted it was “frustrating,” at the same time he said Green Lantern “afforded me a lot of opportunities,” and Reynolds did meet his wife, Blake Lively, on the set.

We also saw the recent Deadpool trailer make light of Green Lantern with mention of not wanting to make the Deadpool suit green or animated (and Reynolds himself recently joked about GL), and while speaking with Empire Magazine, director Tim Miller comments on Deadpool breaking the fourth wall and Green Lantern.

“Does he know he’s a comic book character in a comic book movie? Does he know that Ryan Reynolds is playing him, and that Ryan Reynolds also played Green Lantern? It’s a big rabbit hole, and we explore it pretty deep. Deadpool breaks the fourth wall. Wade Wilson never does,” Miller offered.

The article also contained the following graphic (article text omitted) with Deadpool making fun of Green Lantern.

“Deadpool” has a February 12, 2016 release directed by Tim Miller starring Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, TJ Miller as Weasel, Gina Carano as Angel Dust, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Morena Baccarin as Copycat and Ed Skrein as Ajax.

Synopsis:

Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, DEADPOOL tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.
