It’s being reported that Gil Kenan is directing the upcoming Five Nights at Freddy’s movie for Warner Bros.

Kenan recently directed the Poltergeist remake and helmed the animated Monster House movie, and City of Ember in 2008.

Deadline also reports Kenan will write the script with video game writer Tyler Burton Smith (Sleeping Dogs, Prototype 2).

Five Nights at Freddy’s is Scott Cawthon’s popular video game series that sees players play as a security guard in a Chuck-E-Cheese-like restaurant that houses evil animatronics. The fourth game was recently released, which changed things up a bit by taking place in a house.

The game is available for PC through Steam.

Five Nights at Freddy’s Movie On The Way

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19946:]]

The popular video game about a security guard and possessed animatronics at a pizza joint is getting a movie treatment.

THR reports plans are underway for a Five Nights At Freddy’s movie.

Warner Bros. has picked up the rights to the film, which is based on the video game created by Scott Cawthon.

The Five Nights At Freddy’s movie will be produced by Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment as well as Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg of KatzSmith Productions.

“We’re looking forward to working with Scott to make an insane, terrifying and weirdly adorable movie,” Grahame-Smith offered.

“The story really lends itself to being a movie and it taps into a largely unexplored niche of horror that a lot of people will be able to relate to,” added Cawthon, who recently released the third game in the series.

The Five Nights At Freddy’s video game series sees players playing as a security guard at a Chuck-E-Cheese style pizza restaurant where the animatronics come to life during the night. Players need to stay survive the night in order to complete the game, which features the popular animatronic characters Freddy the bear, Bonnie the bunny, Chicka the chicken and Foxy the pirate fox.

Watch: Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 Trailer

Scott Cawthon has released a trailer for Five Nights At Freddy’s 3, which will be available on Steam.

Cawthon also gave an update stating the rumor about Five Nights At Freddy’s 3 being released on February 5th is untrue, and that he is still working on the game.

Description:

Thirty years after Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza closed it’s doors, the events that took place there have become nothing more than a rumor and a childhood memory, but the owners of “Fazbear’s Fright: The Horror Attraction” are determined to revive the legend and make the experience as authentic as possible for patrons, going to great lengths to find anything that might have survived decades of neglect and ruin.

At first there were only empty shells, a hand, a hook, an old paper-plate doll, but then a remarkable discovery was made…

The attraction now has one animatronic.
