Five Nights at Freddy’s Movie Sequel Already Underway

It’s said a Five Nights at Freddy’s sequel is already in the works which is in response to the flick’s record-breaking opening weekend box office.

The info comes from the MyTimeToShineHellow Twitter account which is somehow very well connected within the industry.

“A Five Nights at Freddy’s movie sequel is already planned,” tweeted the account Saturday.

Update: When asked by THR if she is open to coming back for a sequel, director Emma Tammi responded, “[Laughs] We’re all, including myself, very excited to keep making movies in this universe if we’re lucky enough to do so and this first one does well.”

Breaking records

Regarding the box office, it is reported Five Nights at Freddy’s will have the best Halloween weekend box office with $78 million domestically (beating Puss in Boots $34M), with another $52 million internationally for a current worldwide debut of $130M.

The number is huge as the film can be basically watched for free on the Peacock streaming service (subscription required) but we see people choose to go to the movie theaters.

The box office is also the best for a horror movie this year and bests Scream‘s $44.4M.

The number also gives Five Nights at Freddy’s the second biggest opening for a video game movie behind Super Mario Bros ($146.3M) and beats Sonic the Hedgehog 2 ($72M).

The flick also has a CinemaScore of A- and an 89% Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score.

Made for fans

While appearing recently at the New York Comic-Con, producer Jason Blum of Blumhouse told the crowd they made the movie for the fans of the game.

“Hollywood sometimes — not always — makes the mistake when they are adapting a super-popular book or a super-popular game to start out the very beginning to not only make a movie that will satisfy fans of the book or the game, but also bring along a larger audience. There’s always that pressure,” Blum said.

He added, “What became clear to us during the development process was that the only way to pull this off was to make the movie for fans of Five Nights at Freddy’s and, if anyone else came along, fine.”
