While promoting this week’s release of The Beekeeper, Josh Hutcherson confirms the rumors that Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is in development.
The flick is based on the popular video games and brought in nearly $300 million at the box office with a simultaneous release on the Peacock streaming service on a budget of only $20 million.
Shortly after the movie debuted, opening to a massive $80 million, rumors started swirling about the sequel.
Nailing down the story for the sequel
“I know they’re in the process right now of nailing down the story, and they want to get going as soon as possible,” Hutcherson said while promoting the release of David Ayer’s latest movie, reports Variety. “Obviously, the fans are amazing and die-hard. For me to be a part of it was so cool and phenomenal.”
He continued, “We hoped it would connect with audiences. But I don’t think that anybody, even on our side of things, expected it to really connect the way that it did. I’m dying to get back on set. Emma Tammi, our director, was fantastic, and it was such a fun world to play in. I’m excited to see what they are doing next.”
Following the opening of Five Nights at Freddy’s, When asked by THR if she is open to coming back for a sequel, director Emma Tammi responded, “[Laughs] We’re all, including myself, very excited to keep making movies in this universe if we’re lucky enough to do so and this first one does well.”
