We have some box office update milestones to report on for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Godzilla: Minus One, and The Beekeeper.
Aquaman reigns supreme
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom starring Jason Momoa, Patrick Wilson, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has passed Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam and is now DC’s biggest film at the box office since the release of the first Aquaman back in 2018 that brought in over $1.1 billion.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has a current worldwide gross of $412.702 million compared to Dwayne Johnson and Black Adam‘s $393.4 million.
However, you can argue Dwyane Johnson and Black Adam are still king as Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom brought in nearly $60 million from China.
Black Adam didn’t get a Chinese release where Dwayne Johnson is huge, so obviously if Black Adam tacked on another $60 million or more, it would be ahead of Momoa and Aquaman 2. Johnson’s Black Adam is ahead of Aquaman 2 domestically at $168.1 million to Aquaman 2’s $118.1 million.
However, that’s the cards that have been dealt so Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom reigns supreme.
Assuming all the rumors and speculation are true, we should see Jason Momoa sticking around James Gunn’s DCU as Lobo. Cool.
Godzilla: Minus One roars past $100 million
Regarding Godzilla: Minus One, a movie that has been nominated for the Best VFX Oscar, it’s passed the $100 million mark at the box office.
At a budget of less than $15 million, it’s nearly made 10x its budget with a current $102.6 million worldwide gross. I can recall YouTuber Grace Randolph stating it would flop. Hilarious.
The black and white version is now playing in theaters through Feb 1.
WB and Legendary’s GxK gets released on March 29, 2024. It will be interesting to see responses to that movie in comparison.
The Beekeeper explodes past $100 million
Also a congrats goes to David Ayer as The Beekeeper has also passed the $100 million mark at the box office.
As I posted to my Facebook group of over 11k fans, there hasn’t been many good movies to go to the theaters to watch as of late, so go see David Ayer’s The Beekeeper which stars Jason Statham. Seems I wasn’t the only one thinking that as The Beekeeper took the top spot at the box office this weekend. If you like the John Wick movies, you’ll love The Beekeeper. Read my review here. It’s box office is at $104.1 million.
Ayer is also reteaming with Statham on another action flick which has Sylvester Stallone as the writer and adapts a novel from The Punisher comic book writer Chuck Dixon. Films this year and should be another good one.
