Tom Holland Fought For Spider-Man Says Jon Bernthal; Talks Marvel Auditions

Jon Bernthal and Tom Holland worked together to nail their Marvel auditions of Punisher and Spider-Man, respectively.

Bernthal went on to star in Season 2 of Daredevil (with a Punisher Netflix series rumored), and of course Tom Holland will first appear as Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War followed by the 2017 standalone Spidey movie.

While speaking with Complex.com, Jon Bernthal offered an inside look at their audition process offering Tom Holland really fought to play the role of Spider-Man and more:

I worked with Tom intensely in Ireland on the movie that we did; a group of us were all living in a remote part of Western Ireland, eating every meal together, on set all day with each other. And I got to tell you, in all my years in Hollywood, I’m probably more impressed with Tom Holland than anyone else I’ve ever met. For a guy his age, he’s a force of nature. I saw him go through the process of trying to win that role. He fought for it. He just went out and got it. That’s not an easy feat.

A couple of weeks ago also saw Bernthal offer the following to the NY Daily News:

“We were making tapes from Ireland in the process of getting him cast in Spider-Manand then he and I made a tape for The Punisher. During this independent movie that we did in Ireland we were constantly making tapes for Marvel – just acting together. These tapes definitely do exist, you can call Marvel and ask for it, but that’s like breaking into Fort Knox.”

“I called the guys at Marvel when they were casting (Spider-Man) and I heard he was in the final handful of guys and said, ‘Look for what it’s worth you’re not going to meet a harder working more appreciative kind of guy. I was so blown away by his sort of attitude and work ethic and how good he was.’ But then I said to Tom, ‘I’ve told them that, so don’t prove me wrong.'”

Had an amazing time hanging with this guy. Much love brother. #pilgrimage #brothers.

Check out a pair of new Captain America: Civil War images featuring Sebastian Stan and Don Cheadle.

The two, though on separate sides in Civil War, may actually have something in common as many fans think the characters have a high potential to die in the movie.

The recent Captain America: Civil War trailer revealed The Winter Soldier’s arm ripped off following a fight with Iron Man (though Disney fixed it in an international trailer for some reason), and Don Cheadle has been fielding comments on Twitter from fans regarding the death of War Machine.

Another possibility is these could be red-herrings with another character’s death coming this May.

Tom Hiddleston Picks Team Loki In Captain America: Civil War! (Video)

While the Asardian Trickster will be absent from Captain America: Civil War, that hasn’t stopped Tom Hiddleston from picking a side.

Yahoo caught up with Tom Hiddleston asking the actor if he would pick Team Cap or Team Iron Man.

Hiddleston’s response? Team Loki!

“He’s clearly on Team Loki,” Hiddleston said with a laugh. “They were all fairly unkind to him in The Avengers, so I’m not sure he would be taking sides.”

So what would Loki be doing if he appeared in Captain America: Civil War? Tom Hiddleston has the answer:

“I think he would be sitting on a rooftop somewhere enjoying the fact that the children are squabbling. Going, ‘Ah! This is entertaining.’”

Tom Hiddleston can currently be seen in the Hank Williams biopic, I Saw The Light, and will be back as Loki for Thor: Ragnarok out November 3, 2017.

James Gunn Says Spider-Man Is More Than Awesome In Captain America: Civil War

Check out James Gunn below from the set of Guardians of the Galaxy 2 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Gunn mentions he just shot a scene involving Chris Pratt and Kurt Russell in their costumes, but could say no more.

As they are getting ready to shoot another scene, which will take about twenty minutes to set up, Gunn took the time to talk to fans on Facebook.

Some highlights:

Everybody is asking Gunn for his opinion on Batman Vs. Superman, but he hasn’t seen it, yet.

Gunn says he doesn’t want to direct Star Wars.

A lot of fans thought Gunn was showing off the Guardians of the Galaxy 2 trailer, but he’s not.

There is no Star-Lady.

They’ve been shooting for twenty days.

Gunn has no interest in being president of the United States.

Gunn said he watched the first two episode of Daredevil Season 2? and heard it gets better. Gunn says he liked the first season a lot.

Hasn’t been able to keep up with The Walking Dead.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is supposed to wrap filming in June.

Gunn says he has lots of songs he wants on Guardians of the Galaxy Awesome Mix Vol. 2, but obviously can’t use them all. He can’t share them all, that’s the difficult part.

Gunn says Civil War is awesome.

Gunn says he has quit addressing rumors (won’t comment on potential actors in GOTG 2).

Gunn says he’s Team Iron Man.

Really liked the movie Ex Machina.

First Marvel comic Gunn remembers reading is an issue of Thor.

Drax would probably not like being told to register for something.

Thanos has zero role in Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

The story is about the Guardians.

Liked 10 Cloverfield a lot.

Not sure what he is going to do following Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Marvel has asked him to continue on, but Gunn says he is not sure, yet.

Kurt Russell has been a delight to work with, is having so much fun and really committed to the role he is playing.

They’re blessed to have such a good group of people to work with.

Spider-Man is more than awesome in Civil War, he’s incredible.

No interest in directing the Spawn reboot.

Pom Klementieff fits the role of Mantis so perfectly it’s shocking.

Odds of Rom Spaceknight? Zero. Story is owned by Marvel (Spaceknights). Hasbro owns the character. Gunn would be intersted if it was possible.

Rocket and Groot are his favorites.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 has a May 5, 2017 release

Captain America: Civil War: Don Cheadle Addresses Reactions To War Machine’s Possible Death

The question may not be which side to choose in Captain America: Civil War, but who will make it out alive?

So far the bets are against the survival of War Machine due to the footage in the trailers, which many think will be the catalyst that causes Tony Stark to side against Team Cap.

Don Cheadle happens to be on Twitter and has been getting a lot of feedback regarding the possibility and tells the NY Daily News the following about the reaction to War Machine’s potential demise:

“I’m on Twitter, so I’ve gotten a few people going, ‘Rhodey better not be dead, son. I’m going to be so mad.’ Or ‘I’m done with this thing if Rhodey’s dead,’ “

“But that’s cool, I like that people get so upset about it,” he adds. “I like that in a Marvel movie people are able to evoke such emotion.”

Cheadle wouldn’t directly comment on what may or may not happen with War Machine in Captain America: Civil War, but did admit and tease: “It does look bad for Rhodey.”

Don Cheadle also stars in the Miles Davis biopic, Miles Ahead, which is out April 1st.

“Captain America: Civil War” has  a May 6, 2016 release date directed by Anthony and Joe Russo starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Paul Bettany, Don Cheadle, Emily VanCamp, William Hurt, Martin Freeman and Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther.

Marvel Fixes Big Winter Soldier Spoiler In New Japanese Trailer

Spoilers follow for Captain America: Civil War.

Marvel recently released a new Japanese Captain America: Civil War trailer (watch above) which features a change to the Winter Soldier.

The earlier normal version of the trailer seemed to reveal a big spoiler with Winter Soldier minus his arm in the fight against Iron Man:

Now the new Japanese trailer has been edited to put the arm back:

We can speculate the original trailer may have simply forgotten to add the CGI to Winter Soldier’s arm, or that they are trying to hide the mistake of the spoiler reveal. Or is there something more to it, that the ripping off of Winter Soldier’s arm is too graphic for Japanese and/or some international audiences?

That said, with the two trailers revealing two seemingly different fates for the Winter Soldier, it’s now unknown to us what exactly happens.

(eagle-eyed reddit user noticed the difference)

Tom Holland & Mom Tease Peter Parker Spider-Man “Underoos” Image

High-Res Spider-Man Image

It looks as if we have our first unofficial(?) look at Tom Holland as Peter Parker.

Tom Holland’s iMDB page has recently been updated with a photograph where the Spider-Man costume can be seen underneath Holland’s clothing.

The image is taken by Tom’s official photographer, his mother, Nikki Holland.

More than likely this is just the two having some fun with the “underoos” concept from the trailer, but it’s still pretty cool nonetheless and gives us another look at “Spidey.”

Check it out:

“Captain America: Civil War” has  a May 6, 2016 release date directed by Anthony and Joe Russo starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Paul Bettany, Don Cheadle, Emily VanCamp, William Hurt, Martin Freeman and Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther.

Jeremy Renner Open To Netflix; Responds to Stephen Amell’s Arrow vs Hawkeye Claims (Video)

Jeremy Renner recently attended the Silicon Valley Comic-Con. Below you can check out the video from the Q&A.

Worth a mention is that Renner states he would be “definitely open” to doing a Netflix series as well as a Hawkeye standalone movie. Renner also responds to Stephen Amell’s claims from the 2014 Comic-Con, which saw Amell state, “I can beat Hawkeye in any contest,” and Renner says if he had to choose between Deadpool or Wolverine, it would be the latter because he’s a big Wolverine fan.

Here are some highlights:

Renner on Netflix:

If there’s ever a way to explore the character, maybe it’s in that world. I don’t know. Again these are things that are out of my control, so I don’t really kind of do anything about it… but I would be definitly open to it. I’ve really started to enjoy exploring the character more as of recently. The Netflix model is really a fantastic way to.. that’s where all the character drama goes to now. It’s either you are doing a superhero movie or you kind of go to a Netflix model or HBO… that’s where all the good television is, right? Always open to something like that. I don’t need to say yes or no to those things.

Renner on Stephen Amell’s Arrow claims:

“I’m happy that ficticious character can beat this other ficticious character in any random contest that he would like to challenge…I’m happy for that.”

Regarding the solo Hawkeye movie, fans brought up Aubrey Plaza as a co-star, which Renner was open to.

Russo Brothers Share Little Surprise For Captain America: Civil War

Well, that “little surprise” isn’t Spider-Man, but our second guess was pretty close.

The Russo Brothers went live on Facebook a few moments ago to share “Chris Evans'” reaction to watching Captain America: Civil War for the first time.

Watch the video below.

“Captain America: Civil War” has  a May 6, 2016 release date directed by Anthony and Joe Russo starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Paul Bettany, Don Cheadle, Emily VanCamp, William Hurt, Martin Freeman and Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther.

Russo Brothers Tease Spider-Man(?) Surprise

Anthony and Joe Russo have recently launched their Facebook page.

A couple days ago saw the pair reveal a look at a new Captain America: Civil War scene, and now they tease something for later today.

“We’ll be live with a little friend of ours tomorrow at 2:30pm PST,” the Russo’s posted last night on Facebook (meaning 5:30pm ET Friday, March 18th).

It’s our guess the “little friend” may be new Spider-Man Tom Holland, as it’s also our guess Marvel will be using Spider-Man to further promote Captain America: Civil War.

The Russo’s did just talk in length about Spider-Man and mentioned that the kinks are now out of the Sony and Marvel deal, and that actually they would have liked to use Spider-Man previous to the reveal in the trailer.

Here’s the blurb:

Also I think it was a little bit of a correction because it was a very complicated deal that Sony had to work out with Marvel Studios and Disney in order to make that work. We were very quiet about Spider-Man’s involvement in the movie for much longer than we would have been. We were artificially silent on the character because it was such a sensitive business deal still being worked out even while we were shooting. We went through a very thorough casting process, we tested Tom Holland vigorously with Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr,, we screen tested him along with several other actors, it was a very intense part of making Captain America: Civil War because he was an important part of the movie to us. Finally it’s all secure and we’re at a place where we can present him even in just a small taste.

If we’re wrong about Spider-Man, our next guess is Ant-Man?

Update: One of our guesses was close. Watch the video:

Joe Russo Hints At No Iron Man Without Robert Downey Jr. For A While

It’s not a pleasant thought to think about, but eventually Robert Downey Jr. will leave the role of Iron Man.

Downey Jr. was considered a gamble back in 2008 to play the role of Tony Stark due to his sordid past, but obviously that gamble paid off as the Marvel Cinematic Universe is one of the best movie franchises in existence.

Robert Downey Jr. recently said he doesn’t think an Iron Man 4 will ever happen, but at least he offered if it does, he thinks they should go the villain route with Tony Stark.

Now Joe Russo, co-director behind Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, and the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War movies, offer his take on what could happen to Iron Man when Robert Downey Jr. stops playing the character.

“It’s almost impossible to replace Robert, he’s the biggest movie star in the world. One close up from Robert is worth another actor’s entire performance, he’s incredibly gifted and insanely talented,” Joe Russo offered to Forbes. “I think if and when he is done with the character, I think you will find that Iron Man might disappear for a while. I think the only way that you could reboot that character is to give a generational gap that would allow another actor to at least have a chance to redefine that character without the enormous spectre of Robert hanging over it. There are so many characters in the Marvel universe that can pick up the ball and run without it through the next phase or two before you need to see Iron Man again, frankly.”

Robert Downey Jr. next appears as Iron Man in May’s “Captain America: Civil War.”

Russo Brothers Talk Avengers: Infinity War Characters & Spider-Man

We just heard from Joe and Anthony Russo in regards to Spider-Man in the Captain America: Civil, now check out what the directors have to say about The Avengers: Infinity War. Speaking with Forbes, the Russo’s menton Thanos, new characters and Spider-Man.

On whether Disney/Marvel requires certain characters for Avengers: Infinity War:

JR: Maybe there’s a character requirement but with things like Avengers: Infinity War that’s obvious because it’s a culmination of all the films in the phase that have preceded it. You know that Thanos is going to be in there and the majority of the Marvel Universe is going to appear in the movies. Those are givens, but after that we can construct any narrative we want around it and what we think is the best execution of the story.

On new characters appearing in Avengers: Infinity War:

AR: There are certain characters that you don’t know.

JR: New characters that are going to appear in Avengers: Infinity War. It’s a big sprawling ambitious movie, it’s about as ambitious as movies get and it should be, and the title alone indicates that there will be an incredible scape and scope to it.

On where they are at in regards to Avengers: Infinity War:

AR: It is intended to be the entire culmination of the Marvel cinematic universe and, in many ways, the end to that part of it. But we don’t even have the first draft in on that script yet; we’re still in the outline phase. It’s hard not to talk about it too specifically now only because of spoilers but also because we’re still figuring it out.

AR: We have an idea but let’s see if that evolves over the next couple of months.

Will Spider-Man appear in Avengers: Infinity War:

JR: To be determined. We’ll see.

“The Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1” has a May 4, 2018 release, with Part 2 on May 3, 2019.

Russo Brothers Talk Spider-Man In Captain America: Civil War & Costume

High-Res Spider-Man Image

Sony and Marvel recently debuted a peek at the new Tom Holland Spider-Man in the Captain America: Civil War trailer (watch below), Forbes caught up with directors Joe and Anthony Russo to get their take on fan feedback ranging from including Spider-Man into the movie as well as the trailer and reactions to the new costume.

On Spider-Man being included in the Captain America: Civil War trailer:

JR: We always intended to. He was my favorite character growing up, I still have my collection of comics in my closet so it was a dream come true for us to be able to have Spidey in the movie and interpret him as a character so we couldn’t be more excited and we wanted to share that with everybody else.

AR: Also I think it was a little bit of a correction because it was a very complicated deal that Sony had to work out with Marvel Studios and Disney in order to make that work.

JR: We thought it was a great way to reveal him. I think people are going to be happy with him in the movie, he’s got a very interesting role in it. I think they’ll be happy.

On Spider-Man being a part of Captain America: Civil War:

AR: I’ll say this, part of the fun of Spider-Man is that this film is basically a war amongst the Avengers and Spidey does not have the baggage that all these other characters have. He enters the story after the conflict that is happening between the Avengers and that gives him a very unique place in the story.

On Spider-Man’s costume:

JR: The design of the costume is what it is. That’s the design that we love, it’s the design that Kevin Feige loves and so on. He’s a very popular character so it’s always going to be controversial, people are always going to love or hate what you do with him, but all we can do is make sure that we love it, that we are true to ourselves and true to how we feel about the character and then hope that everybody else digs it.

AR: Part of issue is that we gave such a small impression of the character in that trailer, it’s something of a Rorschach test where people can pour as much of their Spidey anxieties out but when they see the movie they are going to get a very big picture of a very complete character that they have never seen before. It’s kind of hard to react to people’s reactions but they will change radically when they see the movie.

JR: And there is still effects work that needs to be done on it.

We like making strong choices with characters so while this might be a slightly more traditional, Steve Ditko influenced suit, it is certainly in our vocabulary to develop it into something more extreme as the storytelling requires. I think there are things that people will discover when they see the film about why the suit operate the way it does, why the eyes move, all that stuff is substantiated. Everybody wants the answers yesterday but then what would be the point of seeing the movie?

On the possibility of too many versions of Spider-Man in recent years:

JR: There are pros and cons without question; there is the fatigue factor that comes with it. I’m a skeptical fan and I would look at the multiple version and I would even go, ‘Guys, give me a break. Let me wash my palette clean of whatever the last interpretation was because you’re exhausting me!’ However, there are a couple of key factors here. One of them is that he’s back in the Marvel Universe, he’s interacting with characters that you’ve never seen him interact before, it’s actually a young actor playing the part which is a new interpretation of the character and that’s what I remember about the character when I was a kid. The cons are obviously fatigue but the pros are that it could potentially be a really invigorating piece of story telling and a catalyzing interpretation of the character. At the end of the day, the purpose here is to deliver a Spider-Man that people will **** themselves over.
