James Gunn has cast Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor in his Superman: Legacy movie which stars David Corenswet as the new Man of Steel and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.
Back in May, it was said Nicholas Hoult was up to play Lex Luthor with all kinds of speculation and rumors offering possibly Batman and even Brainiac. It’s also known Hoult was a contender to play Batman for Matt Reeves which went to Robert Pattinson.
Rumors have offered that Lex Luthor in the film might be the president of the United States or running for office, and Lex is rumored to be involved in those Middle East terrorism rumors that Gunn recently shot down.
Nicholas Hoult is 33 years old, with David Corenset 30 years old.
Jesse Eisenberg most recently played Lex for Zack Snyder in the DCEU, and Michael Cudlitz is playing the character in the final season of Superman & Lois.
A fan also asked James Gunn on social media when we’ll get the big David Corenswet suit reveal. Gunn replied, “Definitely not until after we’re filming.”
What is Superman: Legacy about?
Superman: Legacy has a July 11, 2025 release date with James Gunn writing and directing. Also starring in the movie includes Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi playing Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion plays Green Lantern Guy Gardner, and María Gabriela de Faría playing The Engineer from The Authority described as a “villain.”
The film is described by DC as telling the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.
