Summary

  • James Gunn denies reports of a $400 million budget
  • The film is reported to have a budget of $364 million, which is still significantly higher than Man of Steel‘s budget of $225 million
  • The film is set to be released on July 11, 2025 and features a star-studded cast including David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan

James Gunn shoots down a report claiming that Superman: Legacy has a massive budget of close to $400 million.

To put that number in perspective, Man of Steel starring Henry Cavill from Zack Snyder is reported to have had a $225 million budget.

So that would mean Gunn’s new take would basically be double of that movie. Wow.

However, it’s not true.

In a report from Biz Journal about how James Gunn will be filming Superman: Legacy in Ohio and hiring 3,000 extras, the report says the Superman: Legacy budget is $364 million.

Fans picked up on the number, which is obviously astronomical, and questioned Gunn about the claims of the budget on Threads.

Gunn replied with a crying laughing emoji, “Absolutely not. How in the world do they think they know what our budget is?”

Zaslav sparing no expense?

My insiders actually have told me Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav canceled the original plans for The Flash and the plan to continue with the DCEU and Ben Affleck as Batman because of costs. I was told Zaslav demanded that Gunn reboot the DCEU with cheaper talent, so that $364 million figure does seem to be a ways off.

That said, a recent report from the trades has said Zaslav has been spending big money as he preps for the sale of Warner Bros. Discovery. It has said Zaslav went and made big deals with Tom Cruise, Margot Robbie, Ryan Coogler, Michael B. Jordan, and the Joker 2 movie is reported to have a massive budget of its own with $200 million ($60 million for first film, so who knows? Maybe Zaslav is sparing no expense to build up Gunn’s DCU in the hopes it makes WBD look better to potential buyers.
