Superman Scores Big at the Box Office with $12.9M First Monday

James Gunn’s Superman continues its impressive domestic box office run with a strong $12.9 million on its first Monday, the #5 biggest Monday in DC movie history.

The total puts the DCU reboot just behind Suicide Squad ($13.1M) and ahead of Man of Steel ($12.6M), with only The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, and Batman v Superman earning more on their respective Mondays (not counting inflation).

This $12.9M haul also came with a solid -58.8% drop from Sunday, which outperformed other comic book openers like Thor: Love and Thunder (-62.5%) and The Batman (-68.3%).

Update: Superman scores biggest Tuesday in 2025.

Third Biggest Monday of 2025

Superman also notched the #3 biggest Monday of the year, beating out:

  • Jurassic World: Rebirth ($11.7M)
  • Captain America: Brave New World ($11.2M, holiday)
  • Minecraft ($9.9M)

It’s actually the biggest Monday of the year when you don’t count a Monday holiday.

Only Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning ($15M) and Disney’s Lilo & Stitch ($36.5M) remake posted higher Monday numbers in 2025, which landed on the Memorial Day holiday.

As of Sunday, Superman brought in $95M internationally. The worldwide box office is now up to $232,923,363.
