Supergirl Skips Super Bowl Trailer, But DC Puppy Promo Returns With New Superhero Dogs

While there won’t be a Supergirl Super Bowl trailer this year, DC will continue its puppy promotion, started last year, with James Gunn’s Superman.

DC and Guide Dogs of America Team Up Again

Following last year’s Puppy Bowl tie-in for James Gunn’s Superman, DC is teaming up with Guide Dogs of America | Tender Loving Canines (GDA|TLC) for a feel-good promotional push that pairs iconic comic book characters with adorable, real-world puppy heroes.

Meet the DC-Inspired Super Puppies

This year’s campaign features a fresh litter of golden-lab puppies sponsored by DC and named after beloved characters from the Superman mythos: Clark, Lois, Kara, Krypto, and Lobo.

Training Future Service Dog Heroes

In partnership with GDA|TLC, these pups are on a yearlong journey to become trained service dogs for individuals who are blind or visually impaired, veterans with PTSD or traumatic brain injuries, and children with autism. They’ll also support public institutions as facility dogs.

Jim Lee Praises the Real-World Heroism

“DC and GDA|TLC have an extraordinary opportunity to tell a powerful story together, one that unites DC’s iconic Super Heroes with an organization dedicated to creating life‑changing, four‑legged heroes,” said Jim Lee, president, publisher, and chief creative officer, DC. “Working together spotlights a future where comic book heroism becomes real‑world action, reflected in extraordinary dogs whose bravery and service transform lives one step at a time. In a rare and meaningful departure from their standard naming conventions, GDA|TLC has allowed this DC-sponsored litter to be named after iconic DC characters. Introducing Krypto, Clark, Lois, Kara, and Lobo.”

Who’s Who in the DC Puppy Litter

Notably, this special litter breaks the usual GDA naming conventions, honoring DC icons instead:

  • Krypto: Krypto the Superdog is where good dogs and great superheroes intersect.
  • Clark Kent: Clark is the mild-mannered secret identity of Superman, an alien from the planet Krypton. He’s known for his strong morals, kind heart, and dedication to using his superhuman abilities for good.
  • Lois Lane: Lois Lane is a tenacious journalist, known for her sharp intellect, strong will, and relentless pursuit of truth, often putting herself in danger to get a story.
  • Kara Zor-El: Also known as Supergirl, Kara possesses all of Superman’s powers—from superhuman strength, speed, and invulnerability all the way down to his flight and enhanced senses—but is still learning to control these awesome abilities.
  • Lobo: This intergalactic alien badass is known as the best bounty hunter in the universe. He has fought on the side of both the good guys and the bad, pretty much just drifting toward whoever pays him the most to get the job done.

From Puppy Pre-K to Superhero Sidekicks

The pups recently graduated from “puppy pre-K” and have now entered the next phase of their training, joining experienced volunteer raisers.

These caretakers will help shape them into full-fledged service dogs, ready to empower people in need.

Real-World Impact and Everyday Heroes

“Puppy Go Home Day is where potential turns into purpose,” said Tony Blevins, president and director of Guide Dogs of America | Tender Loving Canines. “Partnering with DC brings a powerful and joyful energy to this moment. Together, we are celebrating the everyday heroes who open their homes, dedicate their time, and believe in the extraordinary impact these dogs will one day have on the world.”

Anne DePies on Emotional Fan Connection

“At DC, we’re known for telling stories about Super Heroes, but this collaboration gives us the opportunity to share a different kind of story, one rooted in real-world heroism,” added Anne DePies, SVP and general manager, DC. “The most impactful stories inspire connection and empathy, and last year at SDCC we saw firsthand how these guide dogs sparked joy and meaningful engagement with fans at the DC booth. That emotional response is a powerful reminder of the life‑changing impact these dogs will one day have on someone in need. We’re proud to help shine a light on the everyday heroes who make an extraordinary difference in our communities.”

No Super Bowl Spot for Supergirl

Deadline has confirmed no Supergirl Super Bowl trailer, which isn’t a surprise, as usually WB sits out the Super Bowl.
