Milly Alcock is the new DCU Supergirl

Milly Alcock stars as the DCU’s new Supergirl, with rumors offering Alock will first appear in the Superman movie which stars David Corenswet as the new Man of Steel, with Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Superman gets released on July 11, 2025; Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow has no release date as of yet.

The trades previously reported the Mille Alcock version will be an edgier version of Supergirl as it has been said Gunn wants to move away from the recent portrayal played by Melissa Benoist on The CW, and that Krypto the Superdog will be featured.

“In the new iteration, Supergirl travels across the galaxy to celebrate her 21st birthday with Krypto the Superdog. Along the way, she meets a young woman named Ruthye and winds up on a murderous quest for revenge,” stated a previous description by Variety.

Gunn also previously said on social media about casting Alcock: “Milly was the FIRST person I brought up to Peter for this role, well over a year ago, when I had only read the comics. I was watching ‘House of the Dragon’ and thought she might have the edge, grace and authenticity we needed.”

“She’s much more hardcore”

Gunn also offered the following when the DCU was announced January of 2023.

“In our series we see the difference between Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl who was raised on a rock, a chip off Krypton, and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth when she was a young girl,” said Gunn during last year’s DCU press announcement. “She’s much more hardcore; she’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing.”

A “science fiction adventure”

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is also being written by Ana Nogueira.

“A hearty public welcome to Ana Nogueira to the DC Studios family,” said Gunn when the writer was announced. “Ana is an amazing writer whose screenplay adaptation of Woman of Tomorrow is above and beyond anything I hoped it would be. We’re excited to be moving forward on this unique take on Supergirl in this beautiful, star-spanning tale.”

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is also officially described as a “science fiction adventure, which will be based on Tom King’s amazing, award-winning recent comics stories, presents a Supergirl viewers are not used to seeing.”
