Billy Dee Williams Said To Cameo In Star Wars: The Force Awakens

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19458:]]

Cosmic Book News has been shying from reporting on Star Wars rumors as of late: a) because most of them are probably BS, and b) Abrams did say some are true, and I actually want to be able to enjoy the movie when it comes out this December.

However, this latest news is too good to pass up as the Boston Herald is reporting Billy Dee Williams will be returning as Lando Calrissian for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Williams previously made comments that he was unsure if he would be appearing, but would like to do so, and if this report happens to be true, Williams and Star Wars fans have been granted their wish.

“It will be a fun cameo. Billy’s definitely up for it,” a source told the Boston Herald.

The same report also suggests Simon Pegg may make a cameo as well.

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” has a December 18, 2015 release directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, and John Williams returns as the composer.

Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Lupita Nyong’o and Gwendoline Christie will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film.

Disney XD To Remake Original Star Wars In LEGO

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19420:]]

The Force must be strong with LEGO as Disney XD has announced they are remaking the original Star Wars trilogies into a LEGO series.

THR reports Lego Star Wars: Droid Tales will retell the Star Wars saga chronologically.

The limited series will consist of five 22-minute episodes that will air later this year.

LEGO Star Wars: Droid Tales isn’t going to be an exact copy of the George Lucas trilogies as the series will be retold through the eyes of C-3PO and R2-D2 in a brand new story.

Here is the description:

Set after the Rebel Alliance victory on Endor seen at the end of Return of the Jedi, the droids are regaling the assembled of their adventures that led them to their present situation.  An accidental kidnapping leads to a new adventure that progresses to the re-telling of the saga in the chronological order, starting from The Phantom Menace to Return of the Jedi.

Gary Whitta Would Kill For Last Starfighter Remake

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19409:]]

Hollywood screenwriter Gary Whitta is known for writing The Book Of Eli, After Earth, The Walking Dead video game and most recently wrote a draft of of the Gareth Edwards Star Wars spinoff movie.

Whitta’s next project is Mark Millar’s Starlight, but Whitta also says he would like to write a remake for The Last Starfighter.

“Man, I wish. I’m one of a very long list of screenwriters who would kill for the opportunity to bring that back,” Whitta told Slash Film.

At one time, Steven Spielberg and Seth Rogen were interested in The Last Star Fighter as well, but similar to why they never got to remake it, Whitta also says it’s a rights issue.

“It just seems like the rights are impossible to figure out,” Whitta said. “Maybe one day. If there’s one thing that movie taught me, it’s to never stop believing that anything is possible. Even in Hollywood.”

According to Wiki, a remake for The Last Starfighter was on the table back in 2008, with the rights owned by GPA Entertainment, but the project stalled for some reason.

Various rumors have even said there were plans for a “Son of Starfighter” sequel.

The Last Starfighter originally launched back in 1984 that saw a teenager in a trailer park recruited through playing a video game to fight in an intergalactic war.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19114:]]

It’s being said J.J. Abrams wants to release Star Wars: The Force Awakens this Summer.

The reason?

Spoilers.

Abrams is known for trying to keep his movies as secret as possible (he erected barriers on the set of Star Trek Into Darkness), but it seems loads of information have been still leaking.

Now it’s reported that while attending the Visual Effects Society Awards, J.J. Abrams stated Star Wars could get released in the Summer instead of in December as all the spoilers are hurting audience anticipation.

The report is presently unconfirmed and Abrams exact words are unknown, but we’ll update when more info is made known.

If Disney does decide to move Star Wars to the Summer, they will have Avengers 2, TomorrowlandJurassic World, Terminator, Ant-Man and Mission Impossible to contend with (with three being their own movies: Avengers, Tland and Ant-Man).

J.J. Abrams Talks New Star Wars Lightsaber: Star Trek 3 Still Set In Space

Fans of Star Wars nervous about the new lightsaber seen in the first Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer may be relieved to hear what J.J. Abrams says in the above video.

It turns out that all the reactions to the lightsaber – whether it works or not – were already thought of by Abrams and the crew working on Star Wars. Abrams says it was funny to see everyone talking about it.

“It’s been the funniest thing to see the arguments that have developed over this thing,” Abrams said. “It was a sketch that became a whole thing. This was not done without a lot of conversation, and it’s fun to see people have the conversation that we had, but in reverse.”

Abrams also lets it be known that he will be onboard Episodes VIII and IX as an executive producer and stated Rian Johnson is at least directing Star Wars: Episode VIII.

J.J. Abrams was also asked about Star Trek 3 as the movie has a new co-writer on board with Simon Pegg. When the title “Star Trek 3” was brought up, Abrams dismissed the notion with a smile.

“I don’t know ‘Star Trek 3’ really, though,” Abrams said, insinuating it will instead have a subtitle.

It’s then brought up that an example for the title could be “Star Trek: Adventures In Space,” with J.J. Abrams stating, “That is actually a great title,” and looking directly into the camera.

When Robert Orci was still attached to direct Star Trek 3, previous story details he let be known for the movie included that it would be set in space as well as would be closest to the original series more than any of the other prior movies.

With Abrams confirming Star Trek 3 will be set in space, it seems at least they are sticking with that aspect.

Fantastic Four’s Kate Mara Up For Star Wars Spinoff

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:18831:]]

Kate Mara, known for House of Cards and who also will be playing Sue Storm in the Fantastic Four reboot, is said to be up for the Gareth Edwards Star Wars spinoff movie.

Four names have surfaced for the Star Wars spinoff female lead, which also include Rooney Mara (sister to Kate), Felicity Jones, and Tatiana Maslany.

A reporter for Variety is stating Kate Mara is the fourth.

Nothing is known about the character or even what Edwards’ Star Wars spinoff will be about.

Recently, Gary Whitta left as the screenwriter following having worked on the movie for a year; Simon Kinberg is now finishing the script.

Various rumors have stated the Gareth Edwards Star Wars spinoff may be about the Rebels securing the plans to the Death Star with a bunch of bounty hunters involved, while another rumor has said it could be a Han Solo origin story with Aaron Paul as the younger version of Harrison Ford.

The Gareth Edwards Star Wars spinoff is due out December 2016 so as soon as production is set to start, Disney should be releasing official information and making announcements.

Kate Mara has Fantastic Four coming out this August, Ridley Scott’s The Martian in November, and assuming Fantastic Four does well enough, Fantastic Four 2 in 2017.

Disney Scrapped George Lucas’ New Star Wars Plans

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:18824:]]

It’s learned that for the first time, Star Wars will be without George Lucas’ storylines.

Lucas recently attended a premiere for his latest movie, Strange Magic, where he told Cinema Blend, “The ones that I sold to Disney, they came up to the decision that they didn’t really want to do those. So they made up their own. So it’s not the ones that I originally wrote [on screen in Star Wars: The Force Awakens].”

Lucas wouldn’t state what his ideas for the new Star Wars movies were, and it’s also thought that screenwriter Michael Arndt was working on the Lucas version of Star Wars when he was let go, with Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan (Empire Strikes Back) taking over writing chores.

Another rumor has stated that Abrams and Kasdan rewrote the script to include more of the original characters, with Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher.

It’s also possible Disney may have saved us all from the next Jar Jar.

With the recent debut of the teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens (watch below) came with it a bit of controversy surrounding the look of the new lightsaber.

Some fans complained online that the crossguards might hurt the wielder as they appear to be energy shooting out from side-to-side.

Another theory is that whomever built the lightsaber didn’t know what he/she was doing, which is why the crossguards were built to possibly funnel away excess energy.

Well, just maybe the person that did build the new lightsaber was smarter than everyone else.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:18685:]]

Screenwriter Gary Whitta has completed a first draft for the 2016 Star Wars spinoff and has announced his departure in order to write the script for the Mark Millar Starlight movie.

The Hollywood trade sites are stating with Whitta leaving Star Wars, a new screenwriter should be announced soon.

Apparently after a year of working on the Star Wars spinoff script with director Gareth Edwards, Whitta has decided to move on to the Millar movie.

Both Edwards and Whitta released the following statements (via THR):

“Gary has been a wonderful, inspired contributor and I enjoyed working with him tremendously,” said Edwards. “I’m so grateful for all of his contributions. ”

Whitta added: “The year I spent working with Lucasfilm on this Star Wars film has been by far the most rewarding period of my entire career. The untitled Star Wars spinoff movie has a December 16, 2016 release date with the plot rumored to potentially center around the Rebellion’s theft of the Death Star plans or even a Han Solo origin movie starring Aaron Paul.

Regarding Mark Millar’s Starlight movie, it is described as “The Flash Gordon meets The Dark Knight Returns” as it “centers on a space hero who saved the universe 35 years ago but came back to Earth, where no one believed his fantastic stories. He settled down, got married, had kids and got old, but then is called back for one last adventure when his old rocket shows up.”

Aaron Paul Says Star Wars Han Solo Rumors Are Exciting

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:18596:]]

About a week ago, a rumor hit the net stating that Aaron Paul is being eyed for a Star Wars spinoff movie featuring Han Solo.

The rumor didn’t specifically state Aaron Paul was up for Han Solo, but it’s not that hard to connect the dots.

Now Paul has noticed the rumor as well.

Aaron Paul took to Twitter to mention the Star Wars rumor is “very exciting” and jokes about having a job this year.

“Who’s starting these rumors?” Aaron Paul tweeted “This one is actually making me believe I have a job in 2015. Very exciting. #StarWars

The rumor also stated that the Han Solo Star Wars spinoff would overlap filming with Star Wars: Episode VIII and had the working title “Luminac Industrial Goods.”

The “DOC’s” Top Of The Pile for 3/13/2013

The Top Of The Pile

By: Chris “DOC” Bushley

This is a “quick pick” look at the Top 5 comics that EVERYONE should be reading this week! Whether it’s rife with characterization, filled with emotional strife, has a bevy of high octane battle sequences or is just a plain ol’ great read — these books belong at the “Top Of The Pile!”

1. Sledge-Hammer 44 #1(of 2) (Dark Horse): Straight from the pages of Lobster Johnson: Iron Prometheus, comes the tale of Mike Mignola’s version of an “iron man!” What could U.S. troops in the middle of a warzone, surrounded by Nazis, use more than a little help from above? How about a bomb that encases the ultimate fighting machine?! This quirky Mignola tale melds WWII drama and sci-fi zaniness into the perfect story that will leave you begging for more!

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:6089:]]
2. Batgirl #18 (DC): Even though the cover suggests that the issue will focus on the loss of Damian Wayne, this story barely touches on it but is a stunning tale just the same! Ray Fawkes creates a fantastic and eerily creepy tale of Batgirl’s sadistic brother, James Gordon Jr., playing mind games and hunting for prey as his sister deals with a bruised body and a broken heart. It is rich in character development and a true page turner that just might keep you up at night.

3. The Walking Dead #108 (Image/Skybound): Robert Kirkman has been giving fans heart attacks with the last few issues — feigning the death of Carl will do that to a reader! This latest installment will give an insiders look at a bevy of characters thoughts on their new situation and expands on the ever growing world of TWD! I won’t give too much away but I will say, “Ezekiel has a tiger!” Nuff’ said!

4. Star Wars #3 (Dark Horse): Brian Wood has created a fantastic series that feels more cannon than ANY of the prequel movies ever did! Focusing on the strength and determination of everyone’s favorite Princess, this series is a testament to Leia’s true leadership of the Rebellion and that she should NEVER be considered just a damsel in distress! All the original cast is there, no need for discussions or contracts in the world of comics, and this will bring you back to the wonderment of childhood and the amazing movies that shaped our lives from an early age.

5. Avengers Arena #6 (Marvel): Okay, don’t let the cover throw ya, this book has some of the best characterization and dramatic scenes of any comics on the shelves today! Dennis Hopeless and Kev Walker have taken an over done concept and truly made it into something smart and original. Part Lord of the Flies part Hunger Games, this book is harrowing from front to back and it is something every good comic fan should check out more than once! Plus, this one has ANOTHER major death, who would have thought that, right?
