Luke Skywalker Star Wars: Episode VIII Set Video Surfaces

Potential spoilers follow for Star Wars: Episode VIII.

Set video has surfaced of what appears to be Luke Skywalker at what is being described as “The Meditation Rock” by the crew.

It’s said the scene involves Luke meditating on the rock in what might be some sort of Force Vision scene.

Making Star Wars thinks the Meditation Rock scene on Ahch-Too resembles concept art featuring what might be Tatooine, which suggests Luke is having some sort of vision of his home planet (Tatooine) while on the planet seen at the end of Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Ahch-To).

It’s also noted that a young actor is being used as a stand in for Luke Skywalker, which may or may not be of importance.

Watch the Luke video below.

“Star Wars: Episode VIII” has a December 16, 2017 release directed by Rian Johnson starring Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis, Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern and Kelly Marie Tran.

Gareth Edwards & Kathleen Kennedy Respond to Star Wars: Rogue One Rumors

In addition to all the character info and images revealed for Star Wars: Rogue One, director Gareth Edwards and Disney’s Kathleen Kennedy now respond to the reshoot rumors.

EW.com is also once again stating everything is A-OK (“[just]…needed to punch up its emotion and action beats.”)

Edwards and Kennedy had the following to say to calm the masses:

Edwards:

“I mean it was always part of the plan to do reshoots. We always knew we were coming back somewhere to do stuff. We just didn’t know what it would be until we started sculpting the film in the edit. There’s lots of little things that we have to get, but it’s all little things within the preexisting footage. Obviously, you’ve got to work around everyone’s schedule, and everyone’s on different films all over the world, and so it’s a bit of a logistical nightmare. That’s why I think it’s been blown out of proportion a little bit.

“It’s funny, making a film stops you believing anything you’ve ever read on the Internet.”

“I’d definitely describe it as: It’s got dark tone. The studio has been very supportive of that. I mean, the sort of tone we were going for when we started was the tone you have in films like The Empire Strikes Back. And that’s not in any way been compromised.”

Kennedy:

“There’s nothing about the story that’s changing, with a few things that we’re picking up in additional photography. I think that’s the most important thing, to reassure fans that it’s the movie we intended to make.”

“Star Wars: Rogue One” has a December 16, 2016 release directed by Gareth Edwards starring Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, who plays a performance-capture character in Rogue One, and Riz Ahmed.

Star Wars: Rogue One Character Details Revealed

Following up on the news of Darth Vader, now character images and details have been released for Star Wars: Rogue One.

Spoiler warning in effect if you don’t want to know the details.

“Star Wars: Rogue One” has a December 16, 2016 release directed by Gareth Edwards starring Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, who plays a performance-capture character in Rogue One, and Riz Ahmed.

Synopsis:

Rogue One tells the story of resistance fighters who have united to steal plans to the dreaded Death Star.

Ew.com revealed the following:

Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker)

…this shadowy freedom-fighter is Saw Gerrera, a figure with a surprisingly deep background in galactic history. The warrior was actually first seen in season 5 of The Clone Wars animated series, when he was a young man on the planet Onderon, unleashing guerilla combat on the droid army of Separatists who took over his world. Along with his sister, Steela, he fought alongside Darth Vader — back when the Sith lord was just an impetuous young Jedi named Anakin Skywalker. In the episode A War on Two Fronts, which aired in October 2012, Saw and Steela were part of an insurgent group being unofficially trained by Anakin, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and the padawan Ahsoka Tano.  …Saw pays a steep cost for his resistance, and remains mistrustful of any authority except his own for the rest of his days. There never will be a peacetime for him.  Whitaker’s Saw Gerrera is bulkier, more battle-hardened with the years, and maybe a little shellshocked. He has continued to fight; and, as he suggested in the trailer, he has become something — and it’s not quite a hero. Rather, he’s a man who has tried to do the right thing by occasionally doing questionable things.

Director Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn)

On the opposing side, this villain is an ambitious Imperial apparatchik who intends to use his squad of Deathtroopers to pulverize the Rebel uprising and ascend into the Emperor’s graces – while hopefully avoiding the wrath of his enforcer, Darth Vader. “The bad guy is a lot more terrifying when he’s really smart, and really effective,” says Knoll. “There is a lot of palace intrigue going on in the Empire, with people conspiring to move up the ranks and sabotaging each other. There’s not a lot of loyalty there.”

Galen Erso (Mads Mikkelsen)

Jyn’s estranged father is like the galactic version of nuclear pioneer J. Robert Oppenheimer, with doomsday knowledge that is sought by both the Empire and the Rebellion. “He’s one of those people that has insight into you know specific aspects of just how the universe works,” says Hart. Where has Galen been, if Jyn has been on her own for years? “The circumstances of how the family got to the state that it’s in is something that we probably don’t want to share right now,” Hart says. (Lucasfilm isn’t revealing his image yet, so this is file picture. Don’t worry — the button-down isn’t retro galactic fashion.)

K-2SO (Alan Tudyk)

This towering, powerful security droid is described by Edwards as “the antithesis of C-3PO.” In other words, he’s tough, confident, not especially interested in “human/cyborg relations,” and the complete opposite of a neurotic fussbudget. “Kaytoo is a little bit like Chewbacca’s personality in a droid’s body,” Edwards says. “He doesn’t give a s— about what you think. He doesn’t fully check himself before he says things and does things. He just speaks the truth.” Like Jyn, he’s also seeking a bit of redemption for past wrongs. Droids, too, can have regret.

Bodhi Rook (Riz Ahmed)

Bodhi is this Rebel squad’s lead pilot. He tends to be hot-headed, but any abrasiveness is overshadowed by his skills in the air — and the void of space. “He flies a lot of cargo, one of his key jobs,” Kennedy says. “And he tends to be a little tense, a little volatile, but everybody in the group really relies on his technical skills.”

Baze Malbus (Jiang Wen)

Heavily armored, Baze prefers a blaster to hokey religions and ancient weapons, but he is devoted to protecting his friend Chirrut at all costs. “He understands Chirrut’s spiritual centeredness, but he doesn’t necessarily support it,” Kennedy says. Baze goes along with this Force business because “it’s what his friend deeply believes,” she adds. Think of them as a little like the galactic version of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza.

Chirrut Imwe (Donnie Yen)

Pronounced chi-RUT, he’s no Jedi, but he’s devoted to their ways and has used his spirituality to overcome his blindness and become a formidable warrior. “Chirrut falls into the category of being a warrior monk,” says Kennedy. “He very much still believes in everything the Jedi were about.” He maintains that belief even though the Jedi are no longer there to protect the galaxy. As director Gareth Edwards puts it: “This idea that magical beings are going to come and save us is going away, and it’s up to normal, everyday people to take a stand to stop evil from dominating the world.”

Captain Cassian Andor (Diego Luna)

Andor is a by-the-book Rebel intelligence officer, brought in to steady the volatile Erso, but he’s no square. He’s committed, steady, and practical, and has seen more than his share of combat. “He conveys a fair amount of experience and the reality of what it’s like to do this every day, to try to figure out how to resist the Empire effectively and intelligently,” says Kiri Hart, Lucasfilm’s chief of story development. “It’s not easy.”

Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones)

A streetwise delinquent who has been on her own since 15, she has fighting skills and a knowledge of the galactic underworld that the Rebel Alliance desperately needs. “She’s got a checkered past,” says Lucasfilm president and Rogue One producer Kathleen Kennedy. “She has been detained [by the Rebellion] and is being given an opportunity to be useful. And by being useful, it may commute her sentence… She’s a real survivor. She becomes a kind of Joan of Arc in the story.”

Darth Vader Confirmed For Star Wars: Rogue One

Darth Vader is back!

The cover of the latest issue of Entetainment Weekly confirms Darth Vader will appear in December’s Star Wars: Rogue One.

The movie takes place between episodes III and IV and sees the Rebels stealing the plans for the Death Star.

Just how Darth Vader factors in to the storyline is unknown, but the issue promises to reveal more when it goes on sale Friday.

EW.com also offered the following tease:

• The background of our cover showcases new Imperial weaponry being used against the nascent Rebellion: taller, slimmer walkers known as AT-ACTs hauling cargo, and flatter, fang-like interceptors known as TIE Strikers.

• New information about Jyn Erso (The Theory of Everything’s Felicity Jones), the outlaw who has clashed with both the Rebellion and the Empire, and now has a chance to clear her ledger of past wrongs by leading a mission for the good guys. It’s also personal – her father, played by Mads Mikkelson, is a scientist whose knowledge is sought by both sides.

• Full details of the squad of characters uniting to take on the Empire, played by the most multicultural cast to appear in a Star Wars film yet: Diego Luna, Jiang Wen, Donnie Yen, Riz Ahmed, Forest Whitaker, and Alan Tudyk – as a performance-capture droid. (One of these has been seen before by Star Wars fans.)

• A look at the skullduggery inside the Imperial ranks, as seen through the eyes of a new villain: Ben Mendelsohn’s ambitious officer, who’s eager to earn the favor of the Emperor – and avoid the wrath of his black-masked enforcer.

• Candid revelations from the filmmakers about what the current reshoots are adding to the story as the film nears its December release.

• Finally, confirmation of what fans have hoped ever since the project was announced: Vader is back. We have a run-down of the Sith lord’s first day on set, and what his return means for the larger Star Wars storytelling universe.

“Star Wars: Rogue One” has a December 16, 2016 release directed by Gareth Edwards starring Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, who plays a performance-capture character in Rogue One, and Riz Ahmed.

Star Wars: Episode VIII Rumors Hint At Jedi & Rey Origins

Warning: Possible spoilers for Star Wars: Episode VIII follow.

We get some potential insights as to the origins of the Jedi as well as Rey from a rumored Star Wars: Episode VIII script(?) leak featuring a scene and dialogue between Luke and Rey.

The scene seems to indicate that Luke takes Rey on some sort of Force vision journey (à la Force Awakens‘ Maz Katana) where the origins of the Jedi are revealed.

If legit, it says that Anakin Skywalker is not the Chosen One, but that this girl is actually “The One” (sounds a lot like The Matrix).

The info says that a brother and sister discover a tree which gives them Force powers. The brother ends up killing the girl and their mother and father. He then gets transformed into what sounds like the first Dark Side/first Sith. The girl then gets transformed into the Light side.

It’s then said that the girl (“The One”) trains locals as being the first Jedi Order, and that one day she will return as “The One” — either as a boy or a girl — to bring balance to The Force.

Luke then explains that the Jedi got it wrong about Anakin being The One, which led to the earlier Star Wars movies and Vader.

We can speculate that Rey is “The One,” and that the tree may be located on Ahch-To, the planet at the end of Force Awakens where Rey meets Luke.

John Williams To Score Star Wars: Episode VIII, Indiana Jones 5 & Ready Player One

At 84 years young, legendary composer John Williams is keeping busy as it has been announced Williams will be composing the music for Star Wars: Episode VIII, Indiana Jones 5 and Ready Player One.

Williams composed all the music for the Star Wars films to date.

“If I can do it, I certainly will. I told Kathy Kennedy I’m happy to do it, but the real reason is, I didn’t want anybody else writing music for Daisy Ridley,” Williams quipped.

Steven Spielberg confirmed John Williams will be returning to score Indiana Jones 5 at the recent American Film Tribute, which also sees Spielberg and Harrison Ford returning.

“John Williams will come back and score [the film], absolutely,” Spielberg said, reports Yahoo.

Spielberg is also directing Ready Player One, based on the novel of the same name, which will once again reunite Spielberg and John Williams.

“This man’s gifts echo, quite literally, through all of us, around the world and across generations,” AFI president-CEO Bob Gazzale said, reports Variety. “There’s not one person who hasn’t heard this man’s work, who hasn’t felt alive because of it. That’s the ultimate impact of an artist.”

Star Wars: Episode VIII has a December 15, 2017 release; Indiana Jones 5 is due out July 19, 2019, and Ready Player One has a March 30, 2018 release.

Star Wars: Rogue One In Worse Trouble Than Thought

Following news that Disney was in panic mode over Star Wars: Rogue One, it’s learned the situation may be worse than originally speculated.

The original report made mention that Disney wasn’t happy with Gareth Edwards’ version of Star Wars: Rogue One and has ordered reshoots.

Following that, EW.com shilled a bit for Disney and attempted to spin it as if things were okay — that they were simple reshoots and cameos.

Now reports are coming in that things are so bad on Star Wars: Rogue One that not only is half the movie getting reshot, but a new director has been brought on board and rewrites on the script are underway.

Latino Review is stating nearly half of Star Wars: Rogue One is going to be reshot this Summer.

On top of that, the Playlist is stating Tony Gilroy (Bourne Legacy) is overseeing the reshoots and rewrites of the script.

Star Wars: Rogue One is due out this December.

It’s been said the Gareth Edwards version of Star Wars: Rogue One is too dark for Disney’s liking as originally it was going to be a  “Dirty Dozen”-like movie where Rebels go on a suicide mission to steal the Death Star plans and don’t make it out alive. It’s speculated Disney wasn’t happy with that direction and wants to add fun (à la Force Awakens) to the movie.

We’re guessing Disney forgot about the “Wars” in Star Wars. Shame.

“Star Wars: Rogue One” has a December 16, 2016 release directed by Gareth Edwards starring Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, who plays a performance-capture character in Rogue One, and Riz Ahmed.

Disney Rumored To Be In Panic Mode Over Star Wars: Rogue One

Following the stellar performance and reception of J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens, it’s being said Disney is in panic mode over Gareth Edwards’ Star Wars: Rogue One.

The NY Post’s Page Six is stating Star Wars: Rogue One will be doing expensive reshoots this Summer.

The report says the bosses at Disney are not fully satisfied or happy with the first cut from director Gareth Edwards.

According to an insider: “Gareth’s work on the first ‘Godzilla’ [which came out in 2014] shows he can handle a big studio blockbuster. But ‘Rogue One’ has fallen short of what J.J. Abrams did with ‘Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens.’ So Disney has ordered reshoots.”

It’s said Edwards prefers to direct his movies without much influence, but “Disney won’t take a back seat, and is demanding changes, as the movie isn’t testing well.”

A Disney source for the site also added: “The filmmaking team and the studio always anticipated additional shooting and second unit work to make the film the absolute best it can be, and the actors were aware there would be additional shooting. Coming off The Force Awakens, there’s an incredibly high bar for this movie and we have a responsibility to the franchise and to the fans to deliver the best possible movie we can.”

It also recently became known that Gareth Edwards will not be directing Godzilla 2 following Rogue One, but instead will focus on smaller projects. Whether the two are connected, is anybody’s guess.

Donnie Yen, who plays Chirrut, also confirmed Star Wars: Rogue One reshoots for the UK.

“Star Wars: Rogue One” has a December 16, 2016 release directed by Gareth Edwards starring Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, who plays a performance-capture character in Rogue One, and Riz Ahmed.

John Boyega Says Star Wars: Episode VIII Is Darker & Bigger Than Force Awakens

Perhaps following in the footsteps of Empire Strikes Back, John Boyega says Star Wars: Episode VIII will be bigger and darker than its predessor.

Boyega appeared at the Cannes Film Festival where Variety caught up with the actor.

It’s very easy. Rian Johnson is great. It’s a different take, darker, bigger. Someone will say: “How do you get bigger than ‘Force Awakens?’” But it’s crazy.

Boyega wouldn’t say if his comments pertain to his character of Finn and jokingly responded with:

My skin color does because of the heat on the job! That’s me dodging your question because Disney has spies everywhere. If I answer this, I get killed, and I’m not in episode nine.

“Star Wars: Episode VIII” has a December 16, 2017 release directed by Rian Johnson starring Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis, Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern and Kelly Marie Tran.

Star Wars: Episode VIII Rumors For Star Wars Day

With today being May The 4th Be With You – Star Wars Day –  now seems like a good as time as any to post some new Star Wars: Episode VIII rumors.

Obviously these could be fake, but you can check them out below.

Star Wars: Episode VIII has a December 16, 2017 release directed by Rian Johnson starring Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis, Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern and Kelly Marie Tran.

• Luke Skywalker Goes Ballistic

A reddit user posted a rumor that Luke Skywalker has an “explosive” temper. It’s said one scene features Luke having a chat with Rey and Kylo Ren, which sees Luke loose his cool causing the large hut they are in to explode.

Details:

A couple weeks ago I posted a little bit of info about Ach-To being confirmed as the location of the first Jedi Temple (specifically, the large hut they built at Kerry is “where the Jedi began”). I also mentioned a certain member of the First Order winds up at this location in EpVIII as well. That individual is Kylo Ren.

Here’s the saucy bit: A few weeks ago they blew up– specifically, blew apart– an Ahch-To hut. According to my source, Kylo and Rey have a conversation that Luke does not like. Luke tries to stop them. Luke gets angry… and the whole hut they are in disintegrates (re: ‘blows up’). My source did not specify as to the exact cause of the disintegration, but based on the info I believe Luke accidentally (or perhaps even purposely) does so using the Force.

Obviously this isn’t going to be able to be confirmed until the movie drops barring another script leak or MSW or someone receiving similar info, but feel free to set a RemindMe! as always.

Next drop: A returning character from Ep7 will be receiving the “Skywalker Special”…

• A 4Chan rumor mentions Hayden Christensen and more

I am in a position that allows me to know certain details regarding the movie. There have been a lot of “leaks” recently that the crew has found nothing short of hilarious. People have been teasing Daisy Ridley calling her ‘My father’ on set as a joke after the whole bullshit Reddit post which went viral regarding Rey being the reincarnation of Anakin.
Now regarding the movie, here is a bit of information which some of you may find enticing.
– Laura Dern’s character is named Asala Qurd. She is playing the leader of one of the Republic’s military cruisers who were not near the planet that Starkiller blew up. She was a part of the group of politicians and military leaders who believed that the First Order posed no threat, and there is a verbal confrontation between her and Leia in which Dern says ‘ The daughter of Darth Vader has no right to lecture me!’
– Poe Dameron has more screen time and isn’t just in an X-wing like most of TFA.
– Hayden Christenson shot a scene during the nighttime at Pinewood, in which he communicates with both Luke and Rey.
– Kelly Tran is a really cool individual and is a really kind person who can’t act. I have no idea why they cast her in Star Wars. Her characters’ name is Shtala Zi, and is a Resistance contact on the planet that houses Beneicio Del Toro, more on him later. She has a safe-house there and it is seen that Poe knows her from before. Shtala goes out with Finn and Poe on a reconnaissance mission, and just as Finn starts getting attached to her and flirting a bit, The First Order strikes and it is made to seem that she died as she disappears after a huge explosion.
– Yoda also appears to Rey alone, but does speak to Luke without his actual ghost appearing.
– Captain Phasma appears and a gunfight between her squadron and Finn and Poe occurs, with Poe being wounded as he is shot at his wrist. ( I’m not sure but I think they’re going to let his hand be blown off to continue the tradition of a hand being cut off in each episode. )
– Luke explains to Rey the story of Kylo Ren, and how he destroyed everything Luke built after he was corrupted by Snoke. He also speaks of how Han and Ben Solo never really got along, as Ben saw Han as absent from his life. This absence allowed Snoke to really play with his mind.
– Luke mentions Qui-Gon Jin when explaining the light side to Rey.
– No Lando.
– Del Toro is a former bounty hunter and was a leader in the Republic who was not present during the explosion which destroyed the capital. After seeing the devastation, he decides that maybe joining the First Order is his only option and has extremely classified information regarding the Resistance that he plans on giving them in return for immunity. Kylo Ren kills him after Del Toro snickers at Kylo. I have no idea what his name in the movie is.
– Rey is extremely strong with the force but is erratic with it. She tends to tap into the dark side when sparring with Luke which makes him unwilling to train her. Luke has the company of a small animal furry thing on his island, which looks like a cross between a dog, an Ewok and a lizard.
– Leia is wounded in an explosion which prompts Luke to action, Rey also feels a disturbance in the force. They leave on the Falcon to join the rest.
– That’s all I really have. The second half of the third act of the movie is EXTREMELY under wraps. Literally maybe 8 people know what is going down. I asked someone who knows and she told me, “ You’ll wanna wait and see it in a crowded movie theatre.”

• Tom Hardy is rumored for a role in Star Wars: Episode VIII – no specifics mentioned (via Facebook).

•  Star Wars: Episode VIII rumored plot details (via reddit):

The backstory to Luke and his Jedi being wiped out is that Snoke seduced Kylo and a few of the other students to the dark side and tasked them with killing everyone. Luke and a few others survived, including a young Rey who was subsequently dumped on Jakku by Luke.

Rey’s mom died in the attack.

Rey is pissed at Luke because she guesses that he was her father and is angry at him for abandoning her. Luke turns to her and says “No, you are my father”.

Yes, really.

Rey is the reincarnation of Anakin Skywalker. Luke went to the first Jedi temple to better understand how the process works. He learned that the spirit of the chosen one is reincarnated by the Force every time the universe is thrown out of balance, which apparently happens on a semi-regular basis (Anakin was hardly the first time the chosen one reincarnated). This is why she’s so crazy powerful with the Force (remember that Anakin blew up the Trade Federation donut ship by himself when he was like 8 years old).

Rey was the product of a virgin birth, but midichlorians aren’t mentioned (Luke says “you are a child of the Force”).

Luke is hesitant to train her because, according to Jedi history, the chosen one always struggles with staying on the light side of the Force because of the chaotic power running through them. He’s afraid that she could become Vader 2.0. If he trains her to fight Kylo, and she turns dark, she would do way more damage to the galaxy than Kylo could ever dream of doing.

He ultimately trains her anyway and leaves everything up to the Force. He makes this decision in a scene where he confers with the ghosts of Obi-Wan and Yoda (Ewan MacGregor and Frank Oz come back).

Rey learns lightsaber skills, Force skills, and has a vision quest thing where she talks with Maz Kanata (unsure if it’s telepathy or just a dream) and Hayden Christenson. The latter tells her that she is him, but different, and there’s a quick scene where we see hundreds of other Force ghosts who are implied to be past chosen ones.
