The plot for Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter is said to have leaked, which stars Ryan Gosling.
The official title and release date were recently revealed at Star Wars Celebration Japan over the weekend.
What is the plot leak?
According to Daniel RPK, Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter will reportedly follow “a 15-year-old boy on a mission with his uncle (Ryan Gosling) as they’re being pursued by a duo of villains.”
The plot continues, “They’re being pursued by a duo of villains—one male, one female.”
The scooper added the following actors turned down roles: “Jesse Plemons and Jodie Comer were initially offered the villain roles but both declined. Mikey Madison was later approached for the female villain but also passed. Another key role is the boy’s mother (possibly Gosling’s sister or sister-in-law, though it’s unclear). Sarah Snook was offered the part but turned it down. Greta Lee was considered for another female role as a cantina owner the leads encounter on their mission, but she too declined.”
Levy did direct and produce similar projects such as Stranger Things, The Adam Project, and Real Steal, so the rumor fits. It also sounds a bit like the Skeleton Crew series, except instead of using Jude Law who played a bad guy and a bunch of kids, Ryan Gosling is playing the good guy with his nephew.
What has Lucasfilm said?
Lucasfilm is keeping the official plot under wraps but has revealed the movie is set approximately five years after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, where Gosling will play a brand-new character.
At Star Wars Celebration, Ryan Gosling said on stage, “The reality is that this script is just so good. It has such a great story with great and original characters. It’s filled with so much heart and adventure, and there just really is not a more perfect filmmaker for this particular story than Shawn.”
“This is a standalone. It’s not a prequel, not sequel. It’s a new adventure. It’s set in a period of time that we haven’t seen explored yet,” added Levy.

Release info
Star Wars: Starfighter will be released in theaters on May 28, 2027, which is Memorial Day weekend. The film will go into production starting this fall.
