Star Wars: James Mangold Doesn’t Know What’s Next

A bunch of new Star Wars movies have been announced in development including one from James Mangold; however, it’s learned the film is not ready.

Disney recently canceled a Star Wars release date thought to be for the new Daisy Ridley flick. Only Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian & Grogu is confirmed to be actually getting a release date.

The Taika Waititi Star Wars movie doesn’t look to be happening; Dave Filoni is supposed to do a movie but he hasn’t even finished writing Ahsoka Season 2; there’s question if Daisy Ridley and Rey are the future of Star Wars, and Bob Iger is also exiting Disney which could spell the end (finally) for Kathleen Kennedy at Lucasfilm.

What does James Mangold say about his Star Wars movie?

While talking with Deadline, the site asks the status of his Star Wars, where Mangold reveals they don’t even have a draft of the script ready, yet:

I ask about the Star Wars movie, Dawn of the Jedi, which he’s signed on to direct, and write with Beau Willimon (House of Cards). ”My partner and I have been writing it. I don’t know what’s next because we haven’t gotten to the end of that process,” he replies, “we’re trying to finish a draft.”

What is James Mangold’s Star Wars movie about?

First announced early 2023 (it’s been nearly two years), Mangold’s Star Wars is said to be titled “Dawn of the Jedi” set during the time period when the Jedi first started.

It’s said the flick is set at least 25,000 years before the events of the original Star Wars trilogy and aims to explore the origins of the Force and the inception of the Jedi Order.

Mangold said back in 2023 that he envisions his take on Star Wars as a “biblical epic,” drawing inspiration from classic films like The Ten Commandments, to delve into the discovery and early understanding of the Force: “Where did the Force come from, when did we discover it, when did we learn how to use it?” questioned Mangold at the time.

The narrative of the movie is said to focus on the first individuals to harness the Force.
