Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Renewed For Season Two

Paramount+ has officially renewed its upcoming original series, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, for a second season, even as season one continues production in Toronto.

The announcement was made during the Star Trek universe panel at New York Comic Con 2024, where Emmy Award winner Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) was revealed as a recurring guest star for the first season.

The Star Trek universe panel, moderated by CBS News national correspondent Vladimir Duthiers, brought a surprise appearance by Robert Picardo (Star Trek: Voyager, Starfleet Academy, Prodigy), who introduced an exciting livestream straight from the set of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.

Viewers were greeted by executive producer and co-showrunner Alex Kurtzman, who is currently directing the series. Alongside cast members Sandro Rosta, Kerrice Brooks, Bella Shepard, George Hawkins, Karim Diané, and Zoë Steiner, Kurtzman announced that Starfleet Academy had been renewed for a second season, showcasing the strong momentum behind the highly anticipated series.

A New Class of Starfleet Cadets

Produced by CBS Studios, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy will introduce audiences to a new class of Starfleet cadets navigating the challenges of coming of age in one of the galaxy’s most prestigious institutions. Under the guidance of their instructors, these cadets will face blossoming friendships, intense rivalries, first loves, and a new threat that jeopardizes both the Academy and the Federation.

The show promises to explore the themes of hope, optimism, and discovery as these cadets work together to achieve their dream of becoming Starfleet officers.

Creative Team Behind the Series

The first episode of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy was written by Gaia Violo, with Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau serving as co-showrunners and executive producers. Other executive producers include Gaia Violo, Aaron Baiers, Olatunde Osunsanmi, Jenny Lumet, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth, Frank Siracusa, and John Weber.

The series is produced by CBS Studios in association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment and will be distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.

The Expanding Star Trek Universe

Starfleet Academy joins a growing lineup of Star Trek content on Paramount+, which includes the fifth and final season of Star Trek: Discovery, the second season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, the animated comedy Star Trek: Lower Decks, and the upcoming Star Trek: Section 31 movie starring Michelle Yeoh. All seasons of Star Trek: Picard, starring Patrick Stewart, are also available to stream.
