Number One might be Number Two following a recent appearance at the Indiana Comic Con. All kidding aside, Jonathan Frakes appeared at a Star Trek panel and dropped some big spoilers for the upcoming live-action Star Trek: Starfleet Academy series.
Perhaps the biggest spoiler is Frakes accidentally leaking that the series will have a starship. It’s known Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is set on Earth, so news of a starship comes as a surprise. However, this is Star Trek we are talking about. Frakes said at the convention:
“There’s also a spaceship on the show, which I think, I hope that’s not a f-cking secret.”
Frakes also confirmed “the whole first season’s in the can” and said the series has a “massive” set and that it’s “great” in addition to adding, “The scripts are funny, which is always helpful on Star Trek.”
Who is the cast?
Returning
Jonathan Frakes revealed that Robert Picardo is back, who played The Doctor from Voyager, and from Discovery is Tig Notaro as Commander Jet Reno. It looks as if the adult cast will make up the teachers at the academy. IMDb also lists Oded Fehr from Discovery returning as Admiral Charles Vance, with Mary Wiseman back as Tilly.
Tatiana Maslany will also serve as a recurring special guest star in Season 1.
Lead and villain roles
Regarding the cast, it’s known Holly Hunter is starring as the captain and chancellor of the Academy. Also starring includes Paul Giamatti who is said to have a villain role.
Starfleet cadets
Making up the students looks to be, according to IMDb, George Hawkins, Dorothy A. Atabong, Jett Reno, Rebecca Quin, Gina Yashere, Kerrice Brooks, Bella Shepard, Zoë Steiner, Karim Diane, and Sandro Rosta.

Plot
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy will follow the adventures of a new class of Starfleet cadets as they come of age in one of the most legendary places in the galaxy. The series will introduce viewers to this young group of cadets as they come together to pursue a common dream of hope and optimism. Under the watchful and demanding eyes of their instructors, they will discover what it takes to become Starfleet officers as they navigate blossoming friendships, explosive rivalries, first loves and a new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself.
Release info
The release date for Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Season 1 hasn’t been set. The series will air on Paramount+. Season 2 was also greenlight during production on the first season.
