Sony may be developing a Spider-Woman movie for that October 2021 release date they announced Tuesday, according to rumors.
Grace Randolph says that according to her own sources, the Spider-Woman movie is in the furthest development at Sony along with the Kraven flick.
It's also put forth again that the Secret Invasion storyline is coming to the MCU, which in the comics Spider-Woman was a big part of as the Skrull queen impersonated Jessica Drew.
An earlier rumor has suggested Secret Invasion will tie into Captain Marvel, so perhaps everything will be related, which suggests an increased connection between Sony and the MCU.
Randolph also thinks the Sony Spider-Woman movie will be darker and more grounded to fit with that October release date, which follows flicks released in the same month such as Venom and Joker, with it thought Marvel is releasing Blade in October of 2022.
Spider-Woman movie rumored for October 8, 2021
Long story short, in the comics, Jessica Drew is from England where she gets radiation poisoning so her father attempts to treat her with experimental arachnid blood where Jessica gets left in a genetic accelerator for decades. She ends up joining HYDRA as an assassin, but she eventually changes her ways and joins SHIELD and SWORD.
Another origin has her mother, while pregnant with Jessica, hit by an experimental laser beam containing the DNA, and subsequent physical traits, of several species of spiders.
Her powers include superhuman strength, speed, reflexes, agility, endurance and durability; Spider-Woman also possesses the ability to focus bioelectric energy that her body generates into "venom blasts" sufficient to stun or kill normal humans; she can stick to almost any surface by excreting an unknown adhesive substance from her palms and soles; Jessica is immune to all poisons, drugs, and radiation; Jessica's body also emanates a high concentration of pheromones which elicit pleasure in most human males while eliciting fear in most females, though she can use a chemical "perfume" that nullifies this effect.
Regarding her relationship with Spider-Man, prior to becoming a bounty hunter and a private investigator, Jessica considered stealing, but at the last minute decided against it, which saw her run into Spidey who told her to use her unique gifts to help others in need.
Jessica also kills a Skrull posing as Spider-Man.
