Spider-Man: Homecoming Gets 135$ Million Estimated Opening

It’s being speculated that Spider-Man: Homecoming may have upwards of a $135 million opening–which would be more than double that of the first Amazing Spider-Man movie.

Box Office Pro points out Spider-Man: Homecoming has especially good buzz coming off last year’s Captain America: Civil War, which saw the debut of Tom Holland as Spidey; Spider-Man: Homecoming featuring Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark and Iron Man is also a major factor; the trailers have been well received, and of course the fact that it’s a Marvel movie also doesn’t hurt (it helps a lot!).

If Spider-Man: Homecoming does open around $135 million, that would give it the MCU’s sixth best opening, trailing The Avengers, The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Iron Man 3Captain America: Civil War and the recent $146 million opening of Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

I would even suggest Spider-Man: Homecoming could open north of the $135 million number.

It will also be interesting to see if Spider-Man: Homecoming has legs (and hopefully the recent trailer didn’t spoil the whole movie) as it faces stiff competition when Matt Reeve’s War for the Planet of the Apes opens a week following, Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk opens July 21st and the Emoji movie opens July 28th.

“Spider-Man: Homecoming” has a July 7, 2017 release directed by Jon Watts starring Tom Holland, Zendaya, Michael Keaton, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Tyne Daly, Bokeem Woodbine, with Marisa Tomei, and Robert Downey Jr.

Synopsis:

A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming.  Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.
