Spider-Man 4 Release Date Delayed By One Week

Nothing to worry about, but Sony has pushed back the Spider-Man 4 release date by one week from July 24, 2026 to July 31, 2026.

Why the delay?

The delay is a result of Universal and Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey getting released on July 17, 2026. Both movies are set to star Tom Holland, so the extra week for Spider-Man 4 gives some breathing room to both movies.

What is The Odyssey about?

No official plot details have been revealed, but Christopher Nolan is adapting The Odyssey, the ancient Greek epic written by Homer.

Who is Tom Holland playing?

Matt Damon is set to play Odysseus, while it’s thought Tom Holland is taking on the role of his son, Telemachus. In The Odyssey, Telemachus is the son of Odysseus and Penelope (possibly played by Anne Hathaway). At the beginning of the story, Telemachus struggles to assert himself against the suitors who have overrun his home, who are hoping to marry his mother. With guidance from Athena, he embarks on a journey to find news of his father, growing in confidence and maturity along the way. By the time Odysseus returns, Telemachus has become a capable warrior, helping his father reclaim their home from the suitors.

Who stars?

The cast also includes Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, and Charlize Theron. Also starring includes Himesh Patel, Bill Irwi, Benny Safdie, Samantha Morton, Jon Bernthal, John Leguizamo, Elliot Page, Jesse Garcia, and Will Yun Lee. Mia Goth and Corey Hawkins  have also joined the cast.

The Odyssey gets released on July 17, 2026.

What is Spider-Man 4 about?

No official plot details are known about Spider-Man 4. Shang-Chi‘s Destin Daniel Cretton is directing. Rumors offer it will be more street-level and feature a new female lead, possibly Black Cat, and new friends for Peter.

Holland has said he is excited after reading the script and Spider-Man 4 will explore the repercussions of No Way Home.

“Zendaya and I sat down and read it together, and at times we were bouncing around the living room like, ‘This is a real movie worthy of the fans’ respect,’” said Holland. 

“We have to deal with the fact that he decided he was going to give up being Peter Parker and he was gonna focus on being Spider-Man because being Peter Parker was too hard. So that’s what the movie is about,” producer Amy Pascal recently said.

Tom Holland is also expected to film Avengers: Doomsday this summer with Anthony Mackie.

The untitled Spider-Man 4 gets released on July 31, 2026.
