With Marvel Studios developing the live-action Tom Holland Spider-Man: Homecoming movie, Sony may be attempting to get as much bang for the buck as possible by going with the Ultimate Spidey version for the upcoming Spider-Man animated movie.

A description and two roles have been discovered at Backstage which lists what sounds like two characters resembling Miles Morales and his friend from the comics, Ganke Lee:

Terrence (Lead): Male, 13-15 — a young African-American/Puerto Rican teen from Brooklyn; he is new to this suburban school and now feeling out of place, overwhelmed, pressured with new responsibilities, and dealing with puberty; while trying to fit in he must do his best to stay out of trouble; along the way in developing his identity he’s losing old friends but now making a new one, Pete.

Pete (Supporting): Male, 13-16 — a young, slightly geeky, Asian-American teen; he’s smart, sweet, and encouraging; although very unlike any of the friends Terrence had in his old Brooklyn neighborhood, Pete proves to be a good fit for Terrence making good decisions.

The description for the film also states: "…a Sony Animated feature which chronicles the adventures of two unlikely friends, Terrence and Pete."

Note: The site doesn't specifically state the information is for the Spider-Man animated movie, but uses the possible working title "Cabin Fever," and the names of the characters more than likely are placeholders as well.

Sony first announced the new Spider-Man animated movie back in April of 2015 which has a December 21, 2018 release written by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller who will also produce and possibly direct.

If the animated Spider-Man movie does go with Miles Morales, we can assume Marvel Studios will have nothing to do with it because Miles Morales is a character created by Brian Bendis, a member of Ike Perlmutter's Marvel Comics Creative Committee who Kevin Feige booted from being involved with the movies.

Bendis also took the Guardians of the Galaxy Marvel comic book away from Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning and place himself on the book when Marvel Studios green lit the Guardians of the Galaxy feature film.

It's also being thought Marvel Comics/TV is now competing with Marvel Studios.

In additon, the eccentric Ike Perlmutter is tight with Amy Pascal, former head of Sony Pictures and producer on the Spider-Man animated movie.

The Spider-Man animated movie also has Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach as producers, the two producers blamed for ruining the Amazing Spider-Man movie franchise and who Kevin Feige removed from being involved with Spider-Man: Homecoming.
