A new rumor has hit the net offering the reason why an Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Wars spinoff movie hasn't been announced by Disney.
A reporter for Entertainment Weekly (via slashfilm) recently offered the following on a podcast: "I have heard rumors that the one reason they haven’t moved sooner on Obi-Wan is that they’re not done with Obi-Wan quite yet in the Saga films. So I wouldn’t be surprised to see an Obi-Wan thing happen beyond Episode IX."
Last we heard of Obi-Wan Kenobi was during the Force dream scene in Star Wars: The Force Awakens where both Ewan McGregor and Alec Guinness' voice can be heard: "Rey … these are your first steps."
It might be possible that Obi-Wan could actually be featured in Star Wars: Episode VIII and/or IX as a Force Ghost, especially seeing how Luke has a larger role. The reporter goes on to mention similar thoughts:
"…I think that they’ll probably be some reference to Obi-Wan in the Saga films, and his connection to whatever characters he happens to have a connection with. I’ve already written that I think that Rey has some kind of connection to him – family connection. So if that’s the case, maybe we see a part of that play out in the future Obi-Wan movie. Ewan McGregor would be the perfect age to reprise that [character]…"
Regarding the connection to Obi-Wan Kenobie, various fan theories have it that Rey is Obi-Wan's daugher or grandaughter, and that her name is actually Rey Kenobi.
