Peter Dinklage Slams ‘Snow White’ Dwarfs; Disney Responds

Peter Dinklage is back in the headlines as the Game of Thrones actor slams Disney for its upcoming live-action Snow White movie featuring the seven dwarfs, which sees the House of the Mouse respond.

Dinklage recently appeared on the Marc Maron “WTF” podcast and said that he’s not happy that Disney didn’t go progressive enough in its casting, as while Disney went progressive with its casting of LatinaX actress Rachel Zegler in the role of Snow White, Disney still plans on using the seven dwarfs.

“I was a little taken aback when they were very proud to cast a Latina actress as Snow White,” Dinklage said. “But you’re still telling the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Take a step back and look at what you’re doing there. It makes no sense to me.”

Dinklage continued, “You’re progressive in one way and you’re still making that f—ing backwards story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together, what the f— are you doing man? Have I done nothing to advance the cause from my soapbox? I guess I’m not loud enough.”

Peter Dinklage also added that if they are going to tell a progressive Snow White story they should go further progressive with the dwarfs.

“If you tell the story of ‘Snow White’ with the most f—ed up, progressive spin on it? Let’s do it. All in,” he said.

Disney responds to Peter Dinklage’s Snow White dwarfs complaints

Disney has responded to Dinklage’s complaints offering they are going to take a different approach and are consulting with members of the dwarf community (via THR):

“To avoid reinforcing stereotypes from the original animated film, we are taking a different approach with these seven characters and have been consulting with members of the dwarfism community. We look forward to sharing more as the film heads into production after a lengthy development period,” a Disney spokesperson said in a statement.

Disney’s Snow White is getting directed by Marc Webb and also stars Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen.
