It’s actually been speculated that if Ben Affleck is out as the DCEU Dark Knight that Matt Reeves would be going for a young actor for the titular role.
Oscar Isaac is 39 years old, which isn’t too far behind the 46-year-old Ben Affleck, so it may seem odd for the Star Wars actor to don the cape and cowl.
If Oscar Isaac is not playing Batman, how about a villain?
Batman
It’s actually been rumored the Matt Reeves The Batman movie may feature the Court of Owls, which is a secret society made up of Gotham’s wealthiest and oldest families. Maybe whover the younger Batman is will be taking on Oscar Isaac?
Or could the actor be playing a good guy? How about the DCEU Jim Gordon?
Additonal rumors have it that the story surrounding the movie will tie into the founding families of Gotham City and be a prequel set 15 years in the past, which could actually then see Affleck cameo as he recounts the tale in bookend fashion.
Another possibility is that that the movie could be set outside the DCEU, much like the upcoming Joaquin Phoenix Joker movie, which would enable Oscar Isaac to play the Caped Crusader.
Any guesses?
The Batman has been said to start production next Spring, and director Matt Reeves has recently offered a few tidbits:
“Obviously we’re not doing an origin tale or anything like that,” Reeves offered. “We’re doing a story that is definitively Batman though and trying to tell a story that’s emotional and yet is really about him being the world’s greatest detective and all the things that for me, since I was a kid, made me love Batman.”
Reeves also said: “I’ve talked about making it a very point of view noir-driven definitive Batman story in which he is investigating a particular case and that takes us out into the world of Gotham. I went on a deep dive again revisiting all my favorite comics. Those all inform by osmosis. There’s no continuation of the Nolan films. It’s very much trying to find a way to do this as something that for me is going to be definitively Batman and new and cool.”
