Oscar Winner Passes On New Disney Star Wars Movie

The Shawn Levy Star Wars movie in development at Disney and Lucasfilm hits a slight snag as it is learned that an Oscar-winning actress in talks for the film has passed on the role.

Who passed on the role?

According to the trades, Levy was eyeing actress Mikey Madison for his Star Wars movie, who recently won the Best Actress Oscar for Anora, and who is known for Scream and Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.

However, the trades say that following getting the offer to star in Levy’s new Star Wars film, conversations have since ended with Mikey Madison passing on the part (via Variety).

Who stars, and what about the plot and release?

No details are known about what role Madison was up to play, but the trades further state that Ryan Gosling is definitely locked into his role and will be starring in the Shawn Levy Star Wars movie. Obviously, auditions will continue and another actress will land the part of what is assumed to be the female lead opposite Gosling.

Likewise, no plot details are known. Levy’s Star Wars is said to be a standalone, not involving the Skywalker Saga.

The project also has no release date but will follow Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian & Grogu, which gets released on May 22, 2026.

What’s next? Star Wars Celebration this weekend

Disney also recently yanked a planned Star Wars release date for Dec. 18, 2026 which was thought to be for the Daisy Ridley and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy Star Wars: New Jedi Order movie. The latest on that is that it has another writer on board. There’s doubt it will actually happen, as it is expected that Kathleen Kennedy will be exiting Lucasfilm.

Star Wars Celebration kicks off on Friday and runs through the weekend, so maybe we’ll find out about upcoming projects.

Andor Season 2 premieres next Tuesday on Disney+. However, after that, it’s unknown.

It is said Ahoska Season 2 is in development, but the second season has no release date, and it seems as if no new Disney+ Star Wars shows are in the works.

There’s been false chatter about The Acolyte getting a second season from the miniscule amount of stans out there, but that won’t be happening due to a majority of Star Wars fans not watching the show. It’s thought that the backlash to The Acolyte and Amandla Stenberg also led to Star Wars fans tuning out Skeleton Crew, which had worse viewership ratings.,
