Marvel Movies & TV Crossover Not Happening For A Long Time Says Kevin Feige

Long story short, a feud between Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and Marvel CEO Ike Perlmutter and his Marvel Comics Creative Committee essentially saw Disney break up Marvel into two companies.

Feige is in charge of the movies with Marvel Studios, while Perlmutter is in charge of Marvel TV/ Comics/ Gaming/ Licensing.

Fans have been begging for a Marvel movie and TV crossover for a while – hoping to see the likes of Spider-Man and Daredevil team up – but while it has sort of happened on the TV side, it’s never happened on the movie side.

Actors like Samuel L. Jackson, Clark Gregg and Jaimie Alexander have crossed over from the movies and appeared on TV with Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, but no TV character has ever appeared in the movies, and the movies have never referenced anything from TV–and that looks to be the case for the foreseeable future.

io9 asked Kevin Feige if a character showing up on on TV means they won’t ever show up in a Marvel movie. The good news is Feige said that’s not the case, but the bad news is (I’m guessing) that no Marvel TV character will be appearing in a Marvel movie any time soon as long as Perlmutter and his Marvel Comics Creative Committee are around. Feige offers:

Not necessarily. The future’s a long time. So, the truth is, I don’t really know, but there are a lot of TV shows being made, and hopefully we’ll continue to make a lot of movies. At some point, there’s going to be a crossover. Crossover, repetition, or something.

Notice that Feige says “the future’s a long time” and that he doesn’t “really know,” which obviously means, as of right now, there are no plans for characters like Daredevil or Punisher to appear in The Avengers: Infinity War or any other Marvel movie, and vice-versa.

Regarding who is to “blame” for the Marvel split, from my perspective of covering comic book news for the past 8-9 years, it’s Perlmutter and his Marvel Comics Creative Committee made up of Joe Quesada, Alan Fine, Dan Buckley, Brian Bendis, and to a lesser extent head of Marvel TV Jeph Loeb, and even Marvel Comics EIC Axel Alonso and SVVP Tom Brevoort and VP David Gabriel. I would simply point to how bad they have been handling the “Marvel Perlmutter” side of things with Marvel TV being so-so, Marvel gaming being non-existent, Marvel Comics being absolutely horrible, and Marvel Licensing intentionally omitting X-Men characters (ditto for comics).

The Marvel Comics Creative Committee is also responsible for cancelling the comic book line that inspired the multi-billion dollar Guardians of the Galaxy Disney franchise (Disney stockholders take note!).

I’ve said it before, I wish Kevin Feige was in charge of ALL of Marvel. We’d all be better off.
