A new report claims Sydney Sweeney is the frontrunner to become the next Bond girl in Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming James Bond movie for Amazon.
According to The Sun, Villeneuve is a personal friend of the Euphoria and White Lotus star, and he’s keen to cast her as the lead female role.
Sweeney is also said to have the support of Amazon boss Jeff Bezos, whose company now controls the franchise.
Villeneuve, Bezos, and Sweeney Connection
The report states that Villeneuve and Sweeney have spent time together and that he’s impressed by her rising popularity and physical dedication to roles. She recently bulked up to portray boxer Christy Martin in an upcoming biopic, which involved intense weight training and kickboxing.
Sweeney was also seen last year at the Toronto Film Festival talking with Villeneuve and No Time to Die Bond girl Ana de Armas.
More recently, she attended Bezos’s high-profile wedding in Venice.
Looking to Modernize Bond
A source told The Sun that Villeneuve thinks Sweeney has the right mix of youth appeal, athleticism, and traditional Bond girl charm.
“Denis believes she is hugely talented, as well as having an alluring appeal to younger generations, vital in modernising the franchise.”
Bond Casting Still in Flux
As for who will play the next James Bond, The Sun notes that Aaron Taylor-Johnson and James Norton are still considered top contenders. Daniel Craig’s final appearance was in 2021’s No Time to Die, and Amazon is looking to reshape the series for a new era.
No official casting has been confirmed, and production details for the next Bond movie are still under wraps.
