Robert Downey Jr. isn’t going to be sticking around forever to play Tony Stark and Iron Man for Marvel Studios.

Though Downey Jr. is signed on for The Avengers 2 and 3, the part of Iron Man has been described akin to James Bond, meaning there would be no reboot, but a new actor would just continue the role.

So how about Mark Wahlberg?

While promoting his #1 comic book movie at the box office with 2 Guns, Wahlberg let it be known that he is interested in Iron Man.

“I would like to take over the Iron Man franchise for Robert Downey,” Walkerberg told Yahoo! Movies UK. “[But] it’s one of those things where I kind of like playing real people, [so] I’ve never been asked.”

Wahlberg continues with mention of another popular comic book character with Robin. Seems he was up for the part in Batman Forever and laughs at the notion.

“Once I was kind of being talked about for the Robin role in Batman [Forever],” he said, continuing with metion that he doesn’t wear tights or a cape and that “somebody dodged a bullet!”

The actor goes on to state he likes parts that are more realistic, but realizes that all went out the door with Ted as well as working with the CGI Autobots in Transformers 4.

“But I did like The Avengers movie, I thought they did a good job with it,” Wahlberg added. “Most of the movies I see are kids movies, and they are not always all that good, but I thought Avengers did a good job of entertaining the kids and also adults, and that kind of blend of humor and action.”
